Temp Sensor
My mechanic told me that my temperature sensor is not functioning and as a result, it is not sending any signal to the ECU, which turns on the fans. My fans won't turn on at all except when i turn on my A/C. He deviced a quick fix by installing a relay to my turbo timer so that whenever the car is on, the fan (with high spped) is on and off when the turbo timer is off.
The problem is that the temperature now stays at 174F and will not go any higher. Will this have any adverse effect on the car? Will the car be still in warm up mode?
I will be going single turbo this month or next and my mechanic suggests that he fix the temp sensor when he take out the motor for installing the turbo. Is this a good idea?

Yes, that's the Themoswitch which is on the back side of the water pump housing. It's a little bit of a pain to get to if it's just the sensor. It could also be the wiring. The car gets fairly hot in that area and those wires get brittle after a while. When I changed my thermosensor to the Miata one, the wire snapped in two just removing the sensor connection.
IMO, his fix is not a good one. You really don't want the fans running all the time. It would have been better to disconnect the A/C condensor or pull the relay to control the fans with the A/C switch until the sensor could be replaced.
It won't really matter if/when you get a stand-alone ECU for your Single Turbo setup. Most of them, like the PFC, can control the fans for you.
