Tell me what you think guys (Painted wheels)

I will come back and put a better silver on the lip...I've also had some people say Polish the lip. Then clearcoat the whole thing. Also give me some ideas on the centercap.

Looks good. I like the center cap silver and polish the lip.

teamstealth 10-26-03 01:36 PM

i say black the center cap and polish the lip, OR silver the center cap and silver the lip. IMO three seperate colors is a little too busy. What paint are you using? I used dupli-color high perf. wheel paint to do my gunmetal rims and its held up WELL.

I used Plasti-Kote from advance auto. It's an auto body paint. I also used a clearcoat by Plasti-Kote...it's amazing how fast the stuff dries. Ok keep coming with the ideas

teamstealth 10-26-03 01:46 PM

oh BTW, wait a good week for the paint to fully dry before you put ur wheels back on...i have a slight ring on my wheels where they tightened them down to the wheel balancer. Just tellin ya so ur work doesnt go to waste

CowsniperRX7 10-26-03 01:50 PM

Wow that looks good. I can't wait to see em on your car.

xstacy7 10-26-03 01:51 PM

Ok thanks, Its been a little while since they've been painted and I'm also waiting on new tires from the tire rack. I got some Yokohama AVS ES100's (245/45/16) for $93. I can't wait to put them on and see how they're going to look. Have you guys ever seen anybody just paint the spokes and leave the lip silver as I have?

Thanks

Jack

Paint the center's all black, then go back with touch up paint and outline the symbol in silver.
I've personaly got OZ Mito's with black spokes and polished lip and polished rivets(?) on my BB FD.

You've done an excellent job so far.

That one looks awesome. Painting my stock wheels gunmetal is one of those things on my "to do" list thats now become as long as my arm. Yours look really good though.

diablone 10-26-03 03:13 PM

Looks very nice, but I would paint the centers.

dubcaps 10-26-03 04:44 PM

I agree with Goodfellas .... I wonder how the the center-cap raised design would look if you painted it silver... ??? Just a thought

djdudders 10-26-03 10:57 PM

baadakku 10-26-03 11:02 PM

I'd paint the center cap... It looks really hot though.

Fumanchu 10-27-03 12:22 AM

Dammit, I had the same basic idea:( I was waiting till I got my car back with my new motor first.

TN is far away from Cali:)

FeatherTheClutch 10-27-03 12:41 AM

looks good

xstacy7 10-27-03 07:00 AM

Thanks for the compliments and ideas guys. I didn't know how much the centercaps stood out...wow! I'll probably paint them black and leave the logo silver. I'll have some more pics soon. The paint was about $5.00 per can from advance auto and one can does one wheel and some. I've also just gotten done with my 99 spec tail light conversion. I'll show some pics up later.

Thanks

Jack

just a ? for you guys with painted wheels, when you go to put your lug nuts back on, do you worry about them chipping the paint where they are spinning against the wheel while you are tightening them down? seems like they might dig into the paint a little, i was wondering if anybody had a problem with that...

cabaynes 10-27-03 02:45 PM

for anyone who is interested, i did a really quick, really crappy photoshop job of these wheels on my car (with blacked out center caps)...

here it is:

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2274857

i think if i were to do it, i would polish the lip... but i really like how they look!

diablone 10-27-03 03:20 PM

That looks mean! Very nice.

Louis M 10-27-03 03:33 PM

it would look phenominal if the whole wheel was painted black... mmm
