Tell me what you think guys (Painted wheels)
Hey everyone, I am in the process of painting my wheels. I have two of them semi-done. These are just "progress" pics so Let me know what you think!! :D
Thanks Jack |
I will come back and put a better silver on the lip...I've also had some people say Polish the lip. Then clearcoat the whole thing. Also give me some ideas on the centercap.
Jack |
Looks good. I like the center cap silver and polish the lip.
|
i say black the center cap and polish the lip, OR silver the center cap and silver the lip. IMO three seperate colors is a little too busy. What paint are you using? I used dupli-color high perf. wheel paint to do my gunmetal rims and its held up WELL.
-Zach |
I used Plasti-Kote from advance auto. It's an auto body paint. I also used a clearcoat by Plasti-Kote...it's amazing how fast the stuff dries. Ok keep coming with the ideas
|
oh BTW, wait a good week for the paint to fully dry before you put ur wheels back on...i have a slight ring on my wheels where they tightened them down to the wheel balancer. Just tellin ya so ur work doesnt go to waste
|
Wow that looks good. I can't wait to see em on your car.
|
Ok thanks, Its been a little while since they've been painted and I'm also waiting on new tires from the tire rack. I got some Yokohama AVS ES100's (245/45/16) for $93. I can't wait to put them on and see how they're going to look. Have you guys ever seen anybody just paint the spokes and leave the lip silver as I have?
Thanks Jack |
Paint the center's all black, then go back with touch up paint and outline the symbol in silver.
I've personaly got OZ Mito's with black spokes and polished lip and polished rivets(?) on my BB FD. You've done an excellent job so far. Raj |
:werd:
|
That one looks awesome. Painting my stock wheels gunmetal is one of those things on my "to do" list thats now become as long as my arm. Yours look really good though.
|
Looks very nice, but I would paint the centers.
|
id say paint the centers black with the logo in silver. Its looking awesome, keep up the good work.
-stephen |
DROOL its beaauuuuutttttiifuuuuuuuuuulllllll :)
|
They look awesome........I say paint the centercap black though :)
|
I agree with Goodfellas .... I wonder how the the center-cap raised design would look if you painted it silver... ??? Just a thought
|
i like the green shoe wit the yellow laces better.. haha .
where can i get that paint u used and how much was it. i painted mine gunmetal and juss clear coated the sides but i like the black better loooks saweet |
I'd paint the center cap... It looks really hot though.
|
Dammit, I had the same basic idea:( I was waiting till I got my car back with my new motor first.
TN is far away from Cali:) |
looks good
|
Thanks for the compliments and ideas guys. I didn't know how much the centercaps stood out...wow! I'll probably paint them black and leave the logo silver. I'll have some more pics soon. The paint was about $5.00 per can from advance auto and one can does one wheel and some. I've also just gotten done with my 99 spec tail light conversion. I'll show some pics up later.
Thanks Jack |
just a ? for you guys with painted wheels, when you go to put your lug nuts back on, do you worry about them chipping the paint where they are spinning against the wheel while you are tightening them down? seems like they might dig into the paint a little, i was wondering if anybody had a problem with that...
|
for anyone who is interested, i did a really quick, really crappy photoshop job of these wheels on my car (with blacked out center caps)...
here it is: https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2274857 i think if i were to do it, i would polish the lip... but i really like how they look! |
That looks mean! Very nice.
|
it would look phenominal if the whole wheel was painted black... mmm
|
|
Great shoe!!
Greater rim!!! |
i like poping the center caps out from the back and makin them go flying
makes a cool sound too oh you cant polish the inside of the lip now cause youll ruin the paint on the spokes...it does look good though also remember that polishing makes the wheel look smaller....might be my opinion but when i polished mine completely they looked tiny |
id paint the inner lip black too and just polish the outter lip. i did it to the stock 7 spokes on my 240sx
|
Wow those are some good comments guys. I don't know about painting the inner lip because I just wanted the spoked to be black. The pictures don't do it any justice, it looks amazing in real life. That's not a bad photoshop I really can't wait now, the suspense is killing me. I think I'll paint the lip a better silver, clearcoat the whole wheel one more time, and paint the center cap black but leave the logo silver. Here's another angle pic... Thanks guys. More ideas will be appreciated. I'm also painting my brake calipers like my old 7 (red with polished mazda logo).
Jack Oh and that shoe is comfortable as anything |
Hey xstacy7- Can you point out the paint you used for your rims on the plasti-kote.com website? I was going to use the dupli-color but..
1. They dont have black 2. From your pictures, the Plasti-Kote looks way better. Thanks |
Very nice job done on the rim(s). What color is your car xstacy?
|

Looks very nice
|
that looks good...
i got nothing to do so here is a photoshop... hehehe... https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2278234 |
Whoa that one looks pretty badas Cihuuy. I have another picture comparing it to the stock wheel. That stock wheel has half of the rim masked already so that's what that is.
As far as the paint goes. Here's something I just found... http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDeta...egoryCode=3267 My can has a red background but it is the same paint. In the picture you can see the actual can to the left of the rim. I can't wait to get done with these. So you really think paint the inner lip? I wanted the spokes to look "separated" like a 2 or 3 piece wheel. Thanks Jack |
Here's another...like I said the paint is not as shiny in the pics as in real life. I can see my reflection in them.
Oh and Shinobi-X the car is Red. |
|
Cihuuy...howabout a photoshop with a better looking silver? I kinda like the gunmetal but I want a better contrast. Thanks that looks pretty good.
|
please don't paint the inner lip, it will make the spokes look shorter and that will make the rim look much smaller. the way you are painting it is perfect.
|
kinda neat............. powder coat is better since that paint will chip........
|

I would polish the center cap, Even though its plastic I would still polish it...:weed:
|
Ok guys, I've gotten them on the car. They do look oustanding! I haven't gotten to the centercaps yet except for one. Check it out...
Thanks, Jack SOrry guys the forum is being really gay and isn't letting me post any pictures. I'll get some up later maybe |
Here we go guys... https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2291507
