Few questions/comments:

1- Is that picture showing the finished paint color? Is it a dullish black? I always thought any *candy* color was a lot more glossy. Just wondering...

2- Re Hotside: I was having similar issues as you. I ended up getting a custom coupler from a Datsun (I think...) that worked perfectly. I'll show a couple pictures below:

3- What's with all the defensive bitching? I assume everyone including myself was expecting something different based on your thread title. Almost done is usually pretty complete and mint looking. Yours still appears to be more of a work-in-progress.

Anyways good luck man. No need to talk **** to everyone that has a comment though. This is exactly one of the reasons why I don't find it necessary to post my own "project" pictures.

Ok thanks for the non- negative post, first off.

ok to answer your questions, yes that is the finished color, its a house of kolur satin black, gives it a semi-gloss look i like to compare to a stealth look . looks ten times better in person. and it looks lighter lol i dont know why but it does to me.

I'll have to get with you on that coupler... i have been searching for one for a long while and all the ones i found the radius of the turn was too big so i couldn't use it.

And as for the defensive bitching, people posting about something they dont like about a unfinished project,..... it being ghetto?.... i'm sorry i think that is disrespectful, nothing is ghetto rigged in my car i'm sorry, and the pic i posted was from like 3-4 months ago and yes it was dirty but that's cause of the body work and i just wanted to take pics of the new radiator hoses.

I can take criticism, but i was looking for more of a reason why its ghetto not just hey man thats ghetto... i would like to know so i can honestly fix it. I do like to set things up a little different in my car just so its not the same as all the rest and it stands out, prime example my fuel system.

but again thanks again man for not being a dick and giving a back handed compliment

I'm not criticizing, but I could never let my engine bay look like that. I'm not talking about the dirt. I know how dirty cars get in bodyshops.

Ghetto (IMO):
- piping from turbo to IC
- fuel system on top of uim
- fuel lines not organized
- fuse box taped together, on top of radiator
- the mounting of the AST
- lines used for AST, different materials, routed poorly
- vaccum hoses run every which way in the engine bay
- red + blue couplers (can't stand that)
- wiring mess around ABS
- no fender liners (possibly due to bodywork)

^ he said it was a work in progress, this is a thread about his car, not what you'd do to yours.

I understand that. Earlier in the thread I called his engine bay ghetto, so I was clarifying what I meant by that.

ok thank you for this, this gives me a opportunity to explain better.

The IC piping on the hotside i have already explained above so i wont go into that.

the fuel system on the UIM and "unorganized fuel lines...." not sure what to say here i have a MAIN feed comeing to the y block, then one goes to the primary rail the other goes to the secondary rail... then other exit to the reg... pretty straight forward IMO.

thats not a fuse box taped together lol... those are laser diffusers.... and i have them taped so they are out of the way for body work and paint....

mounting of the ast.... i have a bracket coming from my radiator supporting it.. and not much room elsewhere for it, so if you have an idea please let me know i am open for a better place since thats the only place i could find, and the lines are "rigged" i guess you could say. since there is no overflow tank in the picture and i just had a line going to a Gatorade bottle so i would warm the car up and make sure everything was good lol. now I'm in the process of making an aluminum tank for it. so it should look to your liking

oh the wire mess around the abs... i can see how that would look bad in the pic, but its wire for my dual EGT probes, and my FP gauge, that i don't have connected in that pic yet, i do however now and its a lot cleaner up there.

and your correct i didn't want to paint the liners so i removed them, and now im looking for better condition ones cause they where a little torn up.

lastly i'm not trying to be a smart *** or anything, i thank you for pointing out what you were talking about so i could have a chance to explain since you know how people are and your comment about it being ghettoo would snow ball out of control in no time.

stokedxiv, Get off his nuts. His car has been in paint and its dusty and dirty and some things in the engine bay are still not in place. There is still a lot to be done. As he mentioned before his car was stolen and the engine bay got a little messed up in the process. I've seen in person the hard work he puts into his car and for you to sit there and comment and criticize on something that you dont know about is ignorant. No one cares if you could stand what his engine bay looks like if it was yours...... the point is, is that its not yours and this isnt a thread about your cars.

Cost... lol i have no idea... it was all a blur, i can say between materials and paint alone around 2k, not to mention labor, and we wont even get into that lol, the molding and dent removals where insane.... but worth it. i was thinking of a dull clear and who knows if i find a nice one i still might spray it, however how it sits right now its a single stage satin black from house of kolour. but its UV safe and pretty durable and..... well... i love the way it looks when the light hits it lol

I've seen this car in person. The engine bay is a little "busy" but I thought it looked pretty good. This car is a beast!

Just give him a little time to get all the little things worked and, not that it should really matter, in the end I'm sure all will approve.

Good luck, Robert!

I'm liking the exterior far more than the engine bay at this point, don't take this the wrong way as I realize you said it is in 'project' form at this time, but all that work is overshadowed by such a dirty and disorganized engine bay. The color is kick-***, that is going to be so sweet when all said and done, I would like to see it in person some day.
Right now you have about a 6/10ths car, with only a few clean-ups here and there to make it much better.

Good job all in all, I can tell you love this thing!

Suggestion for the AST "mess" lol: Remove the AST! Trust me man, this is the way to go. My friend suggested it to me awhile ago and I've never ever looked back.

I love the satin black color. I'm looking forward to seeing finished pics with it out in the sunshine!

Also, don't worry about anyone giving you a hard time for your engine bay. I am more impressed by someone who isn't scared to do the work themselves, regardless. That's the fun of having a project, watching it evolve.

Quick Reply: teaser :) project almost done.... within the next week.
