Taking off the flywheel.

Will removing the flywheel nut damage the motor mounts if motor is in the car?

HELP!!

What are y'all using to get the thing back on????

I know mazdatrix has a tool to hold the flywheel still, but i need to get this thing on tomorrow - can anyone help?? Is there something I can fab up??

What is the problem with getting it on? Need something to hold it still? Did you use anything to hold it still when removing it? Are you using an air gun? (Preferably a 3/4"+ air gun)

I don't believe I had anything to hold mine both in taking it off and putting it back on. If so then it was probably just someone prying with a pry bar in one of the teeth against the chassis to hold it still. But I do believe I just used the air gun and it stayed still. If nothing else will someone using a pry bar to try and hold it work?

Putting it back on was never the hard part. The hard part was always getting it off.

P.S. When you put the flywheel nut on don't forget to use Locktite. It won't aid in keeping the flywheel still but in case you can get it to stay still, I wouldn't want you to forget the put some of this on the threads.

you know, the one that has a torque spec between 290 and 361 ft-lbs....??

Using an air gun? The nut not the flywheel what? I took it that you were trying to tighten the flywheel nut and needed something to hold the flywheel still from turning.

If you're manually torquing it with a torque mulitplier and a torque wrench then I don't know what you'd use to hold the flywheel other than my idea to wedge pry bar between the teeth and have someone try to hold it.

Sorry man I alway used a 3/4" impact gun.

i was just told by a friend who has built several engines to just use an impact wrench good for round 250 ft lbs and itll be fine though...

so i guess i will try that tomorrow morning

Just use the max setting on the impact gun that you're using.

Well I just used a breaker bar and a large pole over the ratchet for some leverage. Then I used some Iron L bracket and drilled two holes in it to bolt it up to the flywheel. Then I got one guy to hold that while I cranked against the other end. You could just put the L bracket against the ground instead if you wanted.

Make sure you leave the nut just barely on when you whack the flywheel off.

I ended up renting some electric impact wrench good for something around 370 ft-lbs and just hit it until it stopped turning the nut

also slapped some locktite on there for a little security....
