TAIL fuse keeps blowing

Well after a very costly engine rebuild and a lot of other work, my fd is running great again. Problem is that whenever I turn on The parking lights the fuse blows. I checked with the guys at the shop and they said they wouldn't have touched anything that would cause that problem. Does anyone have any suggestions where I should start? I was going to just try disconnecting the tail lights and front bumper lights and see if I could chase it down from there. I don't think the combination switch can really go bad to cause it.

Thanks,

Dan

Fuse blows means you have a short somewhere.

Start with any aftermarket electronics - boost controllers, aftermarket stereo, etc. Many of them tap into the lighting circuit to dim when the lights are on. Also gauges.

If that's not it is your car lowered? Sometimes the tire can eat through the driver's side fender liner and rub on the wiring harness there, causing a short.

Still no luck. Disconnected the aftermarket gauge lights, tail lights and front bumper and its still blowing. I can hear the tns relay click and then it pops right afterward. Anyone know of any temperamental areas I might look?

I've listed the common problems. If that's not it it's a hunt to find that short.

In general, the factory harness is well protected and designed. 9 times out of 10 if you have a problem like this it's going to be aftermarket electronics that have sloppy wiring or physical damage like the tire rubbing through the wheel well liner.

To dovetail on Dale's recommendations, inspect the splice points on the wiring harness to your aftermarket equipment. Approx 90% of all electrical problems occur within 1" of an electrical connector. You may need to shine a light behind the connector to see if the partition between pins melted. Finally, use the Wiring Diagram Manual (WDM) to help isolate electrical subsystems that are connected to a particular fuse. For example, refer to pg Z-20 for an overview of the electrical system. It shows fuses that affect specific electrical circuits.

mystery solved when I went back in for my tune on the new engine. the guys had tapped onto what they thought was a ground when cleaning up some wiring but it was one of the disconnected live wires from my front lights that wasn't used anymore (i had swapped out for a 99 spec bumper). It had been painted black when the rest of the car was a couple years ago. Thank god they realized it because I would have never found it!
