Unhappy Tach is pegged, does not move!

Ok, here we go again! The tach needle is all the way pegged...car idles fine but does not even move the needle. I know these tachs are fragile...dont think it is disconnected, but what gives?

Do I have to remove the tach and carefully move the needle back to the zero spot? Does this sgnify another grand repair on the seven?

Damn......turn that engine off RIGHT NOW or you'll blow it!!!!

Four options that come to mind from cheapest to most expensive: (although if you try you can probably spend more)

See if you can reset it with a drop of Super Glue. Hopefully the needle has just slipped and the tach
still functions. OR.....

A trip to the junkyard is in order - to find another instrument cluster and gut it for the parts. OR...

Call Ray at Malloy Mazda - 1-888-533-3400. He'll get you the lowest price on a new OEM one. Typically 30 - 40% off retail. OR...

You can always get a new RE white face cluster from J-T Imports for $1395.00. You'll impress your friends with it's 10,000 rpm redline and 300 kph max speed!

Good luck!

I had an oil temp sensor wire that got fried. It got on something hot, and grounded/melted. The gauge went to the highest reading, and just stayed there. You may have the same problem. Check your wires before spending a bunch of time/money on a replacement.

in the past i have seen tachs get stuck or pegged. the fix was to start the car, in nuetral bring the idle up to about the middle of the gauge or a bit higher and shut the car off. sounds a bit odd but i have fixed about 5 tachs in that manner (they were not rx7s but they were all mazdas)

Good point - I am assuming he would check continuity first.....
