Synthetic or no Synthetic?

I was reading up on RX7's and I found this website http://www.rx7.voodoobox.net/infofaq.../bguide3g.html if you scroll near to the bottom it says not to use synthetic. What do you recomend to use in it? 5w30 10w30. I always used synthetic.

Search. As others will say, its been gone over a million times.

Synthetic has worked for you so far, right? Don't be a sheep, think for yourself.

^^Those oils are too much money. 7.50 per quart?

If anything, only good that will do is for the turbo, not really the engine if you change the oil religiously. Like people have said in the past, how many oil related problems have occured when they ripped apart an engine?

There are alot of people in the drag industry that run off the shelf oils and have no problems.

I run Q's synthetic blend 10w-30 (high rpm) model in my car now. Its on sale at autozone for 1.99 a quart. I think thats a hellava price and thats great oil.

I've started running synthetic in the rx8. I did some research and read up on the properties of synthetic. When you burn synthetic oil, it leaves less diposits than a mineral based oil. And less diposits are good for apex seals.

Synthetic oil back in the day was not good to use in rotary engines but that has changed with improvements in oil technology. The people that say you can't use it obviously didn't get the memo. And they must not be very familiar with rotaries. As far as what 1QWIK7 said just make sure you change the oil religiously and it really makes no difference what oil type you use. And i use Royal Purple and i love it.

There is some info in the FAQ sticky as well as some threads about this in the Archives. Why rehash this topic?

33) What oil should I use?

First, there is the synthetic vs. dino debate. There is no consensus to this issue. Some experts recommend synthetic, others insist on regular oil. Early on, synthetic oil did not burn well in the combustion chamber - but this is not an issue with modern synthetics. What matters is that it gets changed on schedule – every 3000 miles or less. Some owners choose to change at 1500 miles to offset the fact that the oil cooler(s) is not drained during an oil change. The proper weight is 20w-50 in warm climates and 10w-30 in any place that gets cold in winter.

Most FD owners run from 10w-30 to a 20w-50. It depends on whether the car will experience use in cold winter conditions, or extended track conditions. In either case, the thicker 20w-50 is usually ok since fuel dilution will occur and thin the oil. Very thin oils (0w-40) used in some newer cars are not a good choice.

normal Valvoline 20W-50 recommend by Rick Engman

$2.50/qt and change every 2000-2500 miles with $5 OEM filters from Ray Crowe.

cheap and proper

I use 20w-50 Castrol GTX and have had no issues, but I do change oil about every 1500 miles or less. Just use the same oil and like everybody else is saying change it regularly.
