synchro time?

So I did the classic 3rd gear miss into 5th and my car wont go into reverse now. Usually this is what happens after the miss. But after about a week or so of driving it ends up alighning itself so that I can get it into reverse again. I'm thinking about pulling my tranny at work because I have access to a lift and have some good mechanics who are willing to help out.
If I tear it apart what should I replace so that it will shift into 5th and and reverse smoothly? I know I will need to buy a new synchro...price? Good place to buy? I don't have a whole lot of money to spend, but I wont need to pay for labor. So basically overall price and a place to get the parts from is what I need to figure out? Any suggestions guys?

you need to beg, borrow, or buy the factory puller set. you have to pull off 2 bearings to get to the gear and the synhro. you will also find that your 5th reverse hubset is toast.

So what exactly are you saying... don't try it? just want to know 'cause I have been thinking of doing it myself.

Well, I have a hydraulic lift, and about $10,000+ worth of tools to use. My friend is a mechanic at the dealership I work at and he's really good with imports and domestics. He had a 10 second grand national back in the day. And his civic is pushing 400hp. He doesn't have a problem taking my tranny apart with me and fixing things as long as I pay for parts. I kinda want to learn how to do it myself too so I don't have to pay for it in the future if it ever happens.

its easy if you have the special tool, can his honda pull bearings off a shaft? you need a bearing puller that is about 18" long and the 18" long 32mm socket.
