About $6. Looks to be the EXACT same mirror base. You can even get it from Amazon.

Someone care to guinea pig this and try it out?

Dale
4 years later - I became that guinea pig. The Ford will fit on the mirror but it is a bit taller(thicker) than what you want so the mirror won't sit as flush to the glass. You could make it work I guess? but I won't like it :p
Think I'll pay up the A for that Mazda piece but hey.. what isn't expensive for this car?

OR mirror upside down

I am only 5'11", but the mirror is still annoying.

Just turning the mirror upside down worked for me.

Another FD mirror fixed!

I just did this mirror upgrade to my FD - it's a '93. The old mirror was really wobbly because it was missing one of two little screws that mount part of the bracket to the "button" piece that glues to the windshield, and the mirror itself had that creeping black crud along all of the edges. Anyway, just wanted to update folks on the part numbers and Ray Crowe pricing on the parts needed from Mazda as of today:

Rear View Mirror assembly, B37F-69-220C, $36.03
New metal "Button" piece to glue to the windshield, BC1C-69-240, $31.11

The button is kind of pricey, but having a new & clean button will save you time as compared to trying to salvage a button from the junk yard, as it needs to be super clean before using the adhesive. Still, the total cost of both parts above is still a lot cheaper than OEM FD mirror, which sells for over $100. On the adhesive, follow the instructions to the letter like Dale said. I used the Permatex kit, costs about $10, came with a one part adhesive, and a cleaner/activator pad to prep the windshield and button before applying the glue.

Haha, nope I am 6'6", 38" inseam pants, most of my height is in my legs. Fortunately I fit great and comfortably in an FD!

Pete, I think there is another source for those buttons, like an aftermarket source or something, I think I may have posted it in the thread somewhere.

Also, Pete and I were messaging back and forth about this yesterday, there is a black square on the glass that the button glues to. Leave that be. That's a special paint type stuff that the adhesive can bond to, the window also has the same stuff all around the edges for the glue that holds the window to the car.

Big thing is making sure the surface is clean and flat - no old adhesive or anything on there.

This is one of those easy things to do that makes a BIG difference. You look at the rear view mirror EVERY TIME you are in the car, and having one that has the creeping black stuff around the edges just looks shoddy.

Semi update:
I bought this. It showed up quick, looks pretty nice (definitely glass and has two pivot points) and the package included the metal mounting bracket thing that you glue to the windshield and two tubes of epoxy.. So nothing else is needed!

Quick question... why are you removing the base off of the windshield to install the new mirror?

When I replaced mine, I simply unscrewed the mirror from the base and replaced it with the new one.

If you're going to replace the mirror with the OEM/original FD mirror, you don't need to. But if you replace it with the more modern Mazda mirror, the window mount piece is completely different and it won't fit the FD mount piece on the glass. Benefit of the newer Mazda mirror is (1) It's cheap and readily available, (2) It has 2 pivot points for adjustment, which really helps for us taller guys - you can adjust the mirror so it doesn't block your view on those tight right-hand turns

The big difference as Pete stated (there's a lot of Pete's floating around this thread ) is having the 2 pivot points which allows the mirror to be adjusted up and down height-wise as well as the pivot. For me being 6'6" that makes a BIG difference as it gets the mirror out of my line of sight, for me the stock mirror is right where I need to look to go through a right hand turn.

On the Dragon it's SUPER in the way.

Natey, good find on that mirror kit! That's a great deal. This also applies to most any mirror out there, you can also get the fancy ones with the Homelink garage door openers, compass, backup camera LCD's, whatever. Just find the mount for that mirror, glue it on, then pop on the new mirror. Those can get pricey, though.

If nothing else you can replace the tired mirror with black creep on the sides with a fresh new mirror for not much money and not much effort.

Yes, it’s true. The stock mirror eventually gets blackish looking tar around the edges after some time. Mine also started to come off it’s mounting plate about the 2nd or 3rd year of ownership. I did manage to get it glued back on by an auto glass shop. Stayed put until I decided I had enough of carrying around a garage door opener on my sun visor.
About 9-10yrs ago I decided to install the upgraded mirror more modern Mazdas had which had the built in homelink and auto dim. All I was really after was the homelink. The auto dim was a nice bonus. Keep in mind the stock mirror never got in my way at all. I just got tired of looking at that damn garage door opener hanging off my visor. Especially when I had to use said visor on occasion.. lol
At the time I did the update on my Nc miata so I decided to do it to the FD as well. I was surprised to find out the one I got for the FD came with a built in compass as well. Go fig.
It’s been over a decade now.. one of the best features I added to the FD.

Nice!

Happen to have a part number or what year car that came off of?

I eventually should put on a mirror with at least HomeLink, I have the super junky garage door opener clipped to my visor too

That was the surprising part because I supposedly ordered the same part for both the Miata and the FD. Came in same boxes with the same part numbers. Howeve the one I opened for the FD included the compass. Lol
let me see if I can sift through my invoices for the car. I’ll get you the part number. It was the same part they use for both the NC and the RX8 series 2.
give me a few.. I’ll get it for you

That's nice Neo. Geez, I'm thinking about swallowing my $29.99 and getting one of those now

For me, The reason I'm finally replacing the mirror is I'm pretty tall like Dale, my mirror was turning black from the edges in, and I accidentally knocked it off the windshield one day, so I just forgot about it and used the side mirrors until now....about 4 years. Never had a problem with a cop about it either, even when one argued with me that my stock tail lights had Nightshade on them.

You know you’re dealing with either a rookie cop or a cop that’s looking for quota when they try to pull the illegal taillight tint. I had a cop try to pull this on me about 9yrs ago when I was still driving into the city for work. Got pulled over and they argued I put aftermarket tint on my taillights. To the point where I had to show them pictures of a bunch of our cars lined up. Took a good 15-20min of bs detainment while they confirmed… utterly ridiculous. Got to work late and pissed off for the rest of the morning.
Don’t miss driving into the city anymore.

Ordered a new mirror form Amayama last month. This is what i got:

Mirror -- B37F-69-220C -- $19,76
Mirror base -- BC1C-69-240 -- $14,03

The mirror base is not a perfect fit, but im not sure how well it is supposed to fit. I slides in and the mirror is "stuck" but there still is some sideway "slop" that allows me to wriggle the mirror if i put force to it.
But that might just be how it is supposed to be.

Its nice that it has a "blinding" tab, but my goal with it was to remove the glass and try to put a small OLED screen + a one-way mirror in to get a 100% hidden "Hello officer, no its not tuned" CAN display. Tho its only 19USD for the mirrorit pains me to destroy it anyway xD

Also, both are "Made in USA" which is rare for the parts im used to order from Mazda, but then im pretty sure this is not a "Mazda" part, just a generic part that a lot of brands buy.

I never realized I needed this modification until I read this thread. Even being only 5’9”, the mirror was incredibly annoying after reading this thread.

I got the mirror button from Alibaba for $10.66 shipped.

With the mirror turned upside down and a broadway mirror installed on top of it, I can see everything and it opens up my front view nicely.

Before and after photos taken from eye level, driver’s position.

Thanks Dale

Just FYI about 5 years later and my mirror is doing perfectly. Gluing the new button to the windshield has held up perfectly and the mirror still works and looks great.

This is a cheap, easy, and quality thing that anyone can do and makes a BIG difference. Even if you are trying to stay original the mirror I linked is the later RX-7 mirror so it's not some wild mod.
