supra tranny on 20b?

my friend is selling his 7 with a 20b motor and its pretty tempting and the my supra project is done so its time to move to the next thing. So anyway i know that people have done both the engine and tranny from a supra into a rx7 but could i do just the tranny if i got my friends rx7? It would be nice if i could.

-thanks

I've never heard of it, but my experience is nothing compared to many folks here.

See if the search tool turns up anything for you: try 'supra tran*' as search terms.

honestly its probably possible but your going to be spending extra money. the things you would have to get is a machined input shaft and a plate so that they will match up.

At the very least, you'd need or have to do the following:
  • an adapter plate to bolt the transmission to the engine
  • a clutch that matched the input shaft of the 6-speed
  • a flywheel that matched the bolt pattern of the rotary eccentric shaft and interfaced with the starter
  • a transmission mount
  • get rid of the PPF or find a way to bolt it to the transmission or mount in order to support the front of the differential
  • adapt the 6-speed's slave cylinder to the RX-7 clutch master cylinder
  • possibly modify the floor pan and center console for shifter location
  • shorten or lengthen the driveline as required
It can probably be done. It's just a question of whether or not it's worth the cost and effort.
