TX Suggestions for Coolant Overflow Tank

I'm looking for the wisdom of the crowd here. I've been away from the RX-7 scene for, oh, 10 years at least. I was practically gifted a FD two years ago so now I've rejoined the pack. Problem is that all of the plastic under the hood is original and turning to dust. Most importantly the coolant overflow tank neck is completely powder at the touch. I need to replace it but I really don't want to go through the same thing again with new old stock bottles. I've seen several options for generic aluminum catch tanks which I'd prefer. Is there one or two tanks that work better under an FD hood or some that I should generally avoid?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, a new overflow tank isn't that much and will last a VERY long time. Typically I've just seen them yellow, not get "crumbly". If you can get 20+ years out of a new one, you're doing great.

It's worth getting the washer fluid tank as well.

As with any car, the overflow tank is carefully engineered as part of the entire cooling system and the 'thermosiphon effect' which allows the system to function properly is dependent on this design/location. Cr-rex and Dale have the right of it.

OEM overflow tanks last a long time. Mine is still original, and works perfectly. Go OEM, or go home

I went with an aftermarket tank because I needed to remove the factory tanks to route dedicates brake ducts. It’s from JAZ products.

If you don’t need to do that, just get new or used factory tanks and forget it. No brainer.

I think it's an epidemic, I was just checking my coolant level last week and noticed the top of the overflow filler neck was all, crazed and powdery.

Mine is check with age. It’s on my winter list. Simply a result if age and under hood heat. But I’m not aware of anyone making a better, cost effective replacement than stock.

So I finally called MazdaComp today. $86.91 shipped to my door. The wife will be in bed after hip replacement for the next several weeks so I'll have some free time.

So she threw out her hip when she found out how good of a deal you got?

Hope she has a speedy recovery!

You'll be happy with the new tank for sure. Bolt it in and you're done with it.

Do the autocross guys that run big tires up front (ie 315) have issues with rubbing on the overflow bottle? Or just the headlight frame?
