Arrow Sudgestions on plug and play ECU for my JDM FD3S!

I dont know much about aftermarket ECUs... just that they are really important when modding an FD... I understand the JDM FDs have a diffrent wiring harness then the USDM FDs... I just want a low costing plug and play unit.... any sudgestions??

BTW I just have a couple small flow mods (DP, 3.5" cat-back exhaust, 'thrifty mans intake mod, efini y-pipe)... I dont think I really "need" this mod, but if it'll give me more reliability (no chance of overloading the stock fuel maps), and like 10-15HP, then sure what the hell :P

Just get the power FC and you will never need another ECU

If you don't plan on upping your boost anywhere above 10psi, stick with the stock ECU. The stock ECU will basically handle ALL of your bolt-ons, granted you stick with 10psi of boost.

Look up Wade's Lambda tests on the stock ECU. You'll see that it runs PIG RICH.

What year FD do you have?

The 92-early 95 FDs should have the same wiring harness as the USDM FDs.

It's in late 95-02 when they switched to the 16bit ECU that you need to worry about.

For starters, you need a boost gauge. You need to know how much you're boosting, because if you're going past 12 psi on the stock ECU, $2000 will be the LEAST of your worries. The average rebuilt w/ labor runs about $5,000 - $8,000. So pony up

There are a few old school ECUs that are reflashed for some minor mods, like the M2 and Pettit ECUs. They're 100% plug 'n play, no tuning required. But a) they have to be for the same mods you have, b) it'll be a really conservative tune (ie you won't be getting all the potential out of your mods), and c) you'll STILL need a boost gauge to see how much you're boosting, because if you're overboosting, you're gonna need a boost controller for sure.

I understand you're on a budget, but I'll put it for ya simply, as a friend. If you skimp on the car simply to save money, YOU WILL PAY. HUGELY. You'll really find out just how expensive it is to mess with this car. And those who ignore those warnings...well lets just say we all sit around waiting, because it's only a matter of time before they blow their motor (and usually turbos), end up w/ a $10,000 bill, and put the car up for sale for DIRT cheap because they're in to deep...

That is actually wrong information. The US and JDM (92-95)ecu are the exact plug setup, but some pins are different. The a/c pins are different and theres also another one that I cant remember off my head.

This is why some wire had to be swap in the us models to be able to run the jdm power fc. Talk to chris at rx7.com, and I think steve from gotham can tell which wires they use to swap around. I also think there are write ups on this forum too. Just try and search.

Then if you run an american ecu, you can swap your wiring around to adapt to their computer.

I spent like $750 and just plugged it in. Search "FD3S Power FC" on eBay and you'll see that it's not a $2000 investment.

$750 -> Power FC and Commander shipped to your door.
$0 -> Installation. You do it yourself with a ratcheting 10mm hex in 15 minutes.
$300 -> Datalogit System (a MUST-HAVE for proper tuning)
$45 -> cwrx7r1's PFC Notes.
($300 -> The most you should spend on a wideband system. You SHOULD buy one, but if you want to keep it on the cheap, you might be able to borrow one for initial tuning.)

$995-$1295 for a complete DIY tuning solution that'll pretty much work forever. Don't be a chump! Pay up!
