Stupid Eibach Pro-Springs....
Stupid Eibach Pro-Springs....
Okay, a while back I posted abotu gettig Eibach Springs and Tokico shocks.
Well, I love the shocks, except for the cheap dial you use to adjust them, but these springs suck total ***.
I was told when I ordered the springs that they were linear, not progressive. I specifically asked when making my order.
I got them in and they said "Progressive design." I was like "hmm..."
I said screw it and had them put them on anyway, thinking that whatever the case was they would still be better then stock, plus the whole reason for me doing this now was that I needed to replace my bump stops cause they were gone.
Well, at first they seemed okay, but I've been putting more and more pressure on them, and they totally suck. I have an autocross tomorrow that will be my final test of them, but really I already know that I can't drive my car with these things on them.
Now I don't know what to do though. My options are to put the stock springs back on, or buy a new pair fo linear springs (any suggestions) and have them put on, or just keep these on for now, and not drive my car hard
. I'm not sure if I will be able to return these to Mazda Competition or not.
The springs lower the car nicely, and they seem fine for average driving. I'd definately get them if I just had a show car, which my car is totally not a show car at all. When you go into a hard turn though the car becomes almost impossible to control. I can tell that the car has a lot more grip then what I am able to use, because the car just becomes totally unsettled, but is still holding the road great. BTW, I'm talking about taking static radius or reducing radius turns at around 40-60 MPH. Turns that you would take at 15 MPH in an average car. Its not like the car sucks in normal driving, but when you put it, its crap. The worst is when accelerating through a turn; boy, that throws the car all off.

anyone else have experiences like this? i was thinking about getting them for my FD. how do you like your tokicos? what kind of warrantee do they come with? i was thinking either tokico, bilstein, or koni. which is the best option? for the springs i was thinking of Eibachs but after reading this im unsure. how bout H & Rs? thanks for any help
What setting are the Tokicos on? Perhaps they're set too soft?
I have progressive rate H&R sport springs, and I like them better than the Racing Beats (linear rate springs). My car is a daily driver AND road racer, so the H&Rs are a great compromise. The H&Rs work nicely with the stock R1 shocks. I also have Eibach Competition sway bars fr/rr, so perhaps that's why car behaves so well. The larger diameter sway bars keep the body roll to a minimum.
The H&Rs are slightly softer in spring rate than the Racing Beats, but are stiffer than stock. With the H&Rs I can lift my right-front wheel off of the ground coming out of Putnam Park's Turn 9 (sweeping 3rd gear, 6000 rpm, right hander), when on the power. Guys following behind me think it's SOOO cool
If you're willing to remove the springs and go with something else, try the Racing Beat springs. BTW, I don't think Mazda Comp will give you a refund, since you've already installed the Eibachs.
The other suggestion is to order the Eibach Comp sway bar set from Mazda Comp (that's where I ordered mine) to help with the car's body roll. If you do get the Eibach sway bars, don't forget to fashion a set of sway bar stops to keep the bars from moving left-to-right during hard cornering. Also make sure the rear bushing is tall enough. The ones they sent me were too short. Set the rear sway bar to the same moment arm length as the stock rear sway bar.

Wait, Wait, wait. I went to that autoX, adn I found a few problems while I was preping my car.
#1 The mechanic never reattached my rear strut tower bar. The driver side was unattached, but in place. I didn't notice beofre, and I had my covers on so I never saw it much until I took it back off to adjust them. I had to go buy a bolt a nut to fix it.
#2 They had my tire pressure at 36 all around except for 45 on one tire >
I put them all back to 32 and it was much better.
So, after fixing those two problems it acts MUCh better.

I was getting a little worried there. I want to get the eibach springs with tokico struts. Also I was looking into new sway bars as well. You know, I can never be satisfied.
