I just replaced all my vacuum lines with the simplified sequential layout. The car runs much smoother now but I had an issue with the throttle sticking. I checked the cable and it seems fine, but noticed when I started to open the throttle by hand it would not return all the way.

This was a bit sketchy while driving, luckily it wasn't full throttle and I could just keep it in 5th to slow down. Do I need to get my voltmeter out and adjust the TPS for this? It doesn't feel smooth and feels like its catching on something before I can click it back to closed.

Any ideas?

 

Sticking throttle is typically a mechanical problem. I would pull the TB off, clean it with brake cleaner, then lube everything up with WD-40 and work it back and forth. Look to see if it's binding up on something somewhere.

It's also possible the throttle cable itself is binding up.

Check the dashpot too. It sometimes tends to stick. It should push in smoothly. A new throttle cable from Malloy Mazda is only like $60 so I would definitely replace it if yours looks suspect.

 

Well I pulled the TB and it was turning smooth. So I double checked and made sure everything was clean, set it back and place, and the problem was still there.

Found out the spring clip on the vacuum line from the MAP sensor to the UIM was just barely snagging part of the TB on the firewall side when it was open.

Spun the spring clip around and we're good to go.

I use small cable ties on my MAP sensor hose connections, because I've had a MAP sensor hose come off while driving. Definitely not a nice experience at all.

Reminds me I have some vacuum line re-hosing to do when I get home today...
