Stuck Apex Seal at WOT

Anyone heard of this, is it even possible?

I was under WOT when the car went 1 rotor. I pulled the turbo and exhaust manifold to see the damage but all the apex seals are intact, 1 apex seal is stuck though. Could it be that the corner seal is damaged and it's pinning the apex seal down (it's stuck on one side, the other side of the apex seal moves freely) or it is just alot of carbon build up? The rotor surfaces has heavy carbon build up but getting stuck under WOT is strange.

I don't want to take it about yet if it's just a stuck seal, any ideas?

I would bet detonation which damaged the corner seal/rotor and has pinged the apex seal. When you break down, see if you have even clearances on that corner of the rotor as the other side.

i never rebuild the engine, I'm the third owner but i put about 20,000 kms on it mostly on track. I'm more than sure it was detonation but you might be right about the corner seal.

you wont know what is wrong until you tear into the motor

but if it is the corner seal that pinched it down on one side, you're gonna have to check the clearance

I had the same thing, looked good from the exhaust ports, but was trashed internally on the sides not visible from the port.

If you are owner three, and the engine has never been rebuildt, and you put 20K km on it, tracking and whatnot, i say the engine has performed decent?

Could be small piece of the apex seal cracked or missing where you cant see it. Could have dented the rotor so bad it pinched one of the apex seals. Rotor could have touched iron causing corner seal to bind and pinch apex seal.

If you can get it to start try revving the **** out of it and see if you can get the seal stuck if you are sure that is what it is. You dont have much else to lose at this point, likely it is coming out for a rebuild.
