Strut Bar question

Can someone do me a favor please. My dad owns a CNC machine shop and has been doing it for about 30 years now he can do anythign he wants with them but needs measurements. If any1 has a strut bar doesn't really matter what brand, they practically all the same, can u please take some measurments so i could see if it is worth making one on my own. If the material is cheap enough and is worth it i could mass produce it and start a group buy or something for cheap. Thnx -Ruff

Yeah, I got mine off EBay for $20 shipped. I see no need to spend hundreds of dollars for a name brand.

do you feel a difference though and are they actually good quality? Plus not really money issue i just want to make one. basically all i need is the length of the slant. well the degree of the slant that goes from the long part to the hook that little section.

Most of those 20 dollar ebay ones are made out of aluminium right? Cant you bend that just by pushing your weight against it? Thats not a good thing.

Well these ebay will crack under stress but a cheap strut bar is better than no strut bar.

Instead of copying someone else's design, why don't you measure your own car and create something of your own?

Basically, you just need enough clearance for the IC and intake piping; but not so much clearance the hood won't close.

Who ever said anything about copying someones design i suggest you go back and readthe post. the question is what is the degree of the angle.....just for fitting purposes. No one ever said some1 please give me the exact design and i willmake areplica of greddyor cusco or something

When I bought mine off ebay a few years ago it was $60 Best I can tell the center section is the same as the $12 ones but my endplates are slightly different and more rigid. Mine fits perfectly and is absolutely perfect for what it's designed for. No need to spend more money.

What else is there to a strut bar? The length between the shock towers is the same on all FD's. Most of the strut bar differences come from clearance of the IC piping which has to do with the angle's used.

So, if you use the same angle, how is that not copying someone's design?

If you are just trying to figure out for "fitting purposes", why don't you make a prototype out of foam or some other cheap/inexpensive material for "fitting purposes"?

Probably because it would be quicker and easier to use something already made...

Then why bother making your own if all you are going to do is copy someone else's design (espeically with the cheap ones on eBay)?

Why "re-invent the wheel"?

I dont have any accurate way to measure the angle or I would. At this point it would probly be easier to buy one off ebay for $20 and then you can go back and forth to get what ever measurements you need and you would hafe the peice that bolts to the strut for measurment also.

Ok, that makes absolutely no sense at all.

This is the same thing as asking what core and end tanks ASP is using for their IC so you can build your own IC (which is really not your own if you use exactly what ASP is using).

How is one degree of an angle copying some1's design it all depends on the material used how reliable they are the endplates theres a bunch of different things into a strut bar not just the oneangle i'm looking for to see what clears. There are so many company's of strut bar your telling me every single one has a difference in that angle?? Its for an FD the angle will always be the same because its for clearence of a FD unless you have a different hood or different mods everyone has the same amount of clearence....i'm just trying to figure out how much that clearence is.

Actually that's not entirely true. Check at the various engine pics around. Big difference in clearance just between those two different bars.

Just purchase a cheap one off of ebay. You can get a nice carbon fiber one if you want to spend the money. If your going to copy one, make it one of the braces that connects to the strut towers and firewall! I'd like one of those.

Ok, if you already know, why was this thread started?

If you know the clearance and the distance you need to go, it's simple geometry at that point.

Yes, but you aren't asking people to give measurements of their strut bars either.
