Exclamation Stripped Stud on wheel hub, help.

Hey guys. Today I was working on breaks and as I was taking off the wheel, one of the studs got stripped badly. Right now I only have 4 lugs holding the wheel on. What options do I have? Can I replace just the one stripped stud, or do I have to replace the whole damn thing? Also, is it dangerous to drive around with the 4 lugs holding the wheel on?

Thanks

You can replace the stud, more than likely. I had a similar thing happen to my Pathfinder (back when I still had it), and I took the assembly with the studs on them to a shop and they used an air hammer to pound out the old one and pound in the new one. It took about 10 minutes, and since it was the fault of the tire shop that rotated my tires, I didn't have to pay for it. I'd expect something like that to run $20 or $30 including the new stud, but I really don't know for sure.

You can just use a big hammer to pound it out, no pounding it back in may be a little harder, make sure you pound it back in straight. The front hub is a lot easier to take off than the one in the back.

Happened to me as well. It is an easy fix. Hammer it out and get a replacement wheel stud from your local autoparts house. The replacement may not look the same, but make sure the length and diameter of the shank is the same.

Talk an open ended lug nut and when you tighten it, it will pull the wheelstud into place. Piece of cake. Good luck.

If it's the front it's easy.....the back is another story. Like it was said earlier.....hammer the old out and put the old one in and use a lugnut to pull it back through. A little WD makes things easier as well.

The part # for the FD if you want to call Mazda is....

Good luck
