You can repair it with a helicoil.

better question would be if i sealed up the hole with some kind of gasket maker and screwed the screw into that for now...would i have a problem with the gasket not sealing?

You could try it and find out... If you are impatient and you just don't want to wait for helicoils to be shipped, any local machine shop should have them and they'll install one for you. Or order a kit from McMaster, that should take about a day to get to you.

Just helicoil it man, it takes two mins and isnt hard at all. Remember to stuff tissues in the ports on the LIM though and use grease on the drill bit and tap to make the metal shavings stick to the drill and not fall into the engine!

OH yeah, and stop doing your bolts so damn tight too!

I would think so. All the bolt would be doing is resting in the hole. You couldn't get any clamping force out of it. Then the UIM would be only secured on the edges & outside areas.

No reason to half *** it............

Most auto parts stores have metric heli-coil kits. They run anywhere from $20-$35. I think it's a 10X1.25 thread, but I would take the bolt with you to make sure.

Your not alone, I had to do this repair on my LIM also (don't know my own strength).
