Streetporting

Hey guys need some help with a question I can't seem to find searching...Maybe I'm using the wrong search words, but anyways can the stock ECU on a '93 FD handle a street port or do I absolutely have to have an aftermarket ECU

I think if you are interested in putting in a street ported motor you prolly have a few other mods on there too?? Intake/exhaust? Running stock boost levels or not? All these things are important to try and correctly answer your question.

To be honest, if you are dropping a street ported motor in there, it is probably in your best interest to go ahead and replace the stock ecu with an aftermarket unit. This is just b/c you are most likely going to be upgrading the car further and WILL need extra tunability.

You are correct in saying that I'm eventually going to need one. My car will be going into the shop in a few weeks here for an engine rebuild. Currently running stock twins racing beat exhaust no down pipe and intake. plans to go to a single probably a GT35R, but when I bought the car i got to drive it approximately 35 miles then the coolant seal failed. 68k miles so I plan to have it street ported while it's in the shop with plans of putting a single on later, which brings me back to the original question now that there's a little more detail. Can I run a stock ECU on a street ported engine temporarily while I wait for an after market ECU to arrive

I don't see why not as long as you don't boost it there would be no fueling issues...

you are spending all that money on a street port and gt35 turbo kit, thats too much of an investment to risk it all over a stock ecu...just wait until you can afford what you need and don't cut any corners. just my opinion

I think you should port it now while the motor is out of the car and apart being rebuilt. Then, upgrade the computer when you upgrade to a single turbo. As others have said, your stock ecu should be fine so long as you are not exceeding its boost limit.

Thanks for your all of your input sounds like I'll be fine with street porting the motor as so long as the boost stays within the stock ECU's boost limits.
