StreetPort Ign Timing

Ive always been under the impression that timing would need to retarded somewhat on a streetported motor which if you think about it would make sense, But...
I also know that the advance in timing the more power as well, So why if you just paid lots of money to gain power from a streetport when your just going to retard the timing for a more perfect combustion and probably lose the power you just gained from the streetport...?
I have been trying to find someone in MN who knows anything about PowerFC/streetport timing map tuning to no avale this is why I ask...

I've read that you retard the timing to take advantage of the larger intake and exhaust ports. If you didn't, you'd apparently gain nothing from the larger intake and exhaust ports. This info was gleaned from Dave Barninger of KDR Performance.

Grasshoppers: That statement is not true unless the timing was too retarded in the first place, or unless you want to tune the engine on the edge. Some chips did that but then also required you to use premium gas instead of regular.

Timming is retarded when going to larger ports. If this was not done, you would blow the engine. Why you ask?

Without going into great detail, larger ports allow a larger volume of air/gas into the rotor chamber for any given boost. Thus the mixture will have the ability to produce more potential power. It is more explosive because the dynamic working pressure in the chamber will be higher. Same as going to higher compression pistons in other engines. The timing has to be correct as to not make too much pressure or make it too soon(pinging or detonation.

I suggest you-all read some books on automotive
engines operational theory.

Once again Chuck... Thanks.
Ive been pondering this and searching forums and reading all about timing & thats pretty much all I erally wanted to know but... I know not to "rely" upon the stock knock sensor but when I got tuned a few weeks ago the guy pretty much didnt even really touch the timing maps, Actually I thought it was strange he wasa real sketchy about manipulating the timing maps in the first place but he actually advanced my timing a little bit & Ive got a rather large Pettit streetport...
I posted on this the next day but nobody seemed to think it was odd besides me. And I wasnt as impressed with my power I was expecting.
Thats why im wondering if I just did lots of research on the subject and then used the "Suganuma" maps as a base setting if I would produce more power, Cuz right now it would be safe to say Im running with the base stock PFC maps with a healthy bit of mods and a large streetport.

I was just catching up on a few threads as it appears that some people are using a PFC map i used to run and posted a few years ago. this map was pre-programmed by SR motorsports for my mods at the time. I don't run that map or EMS anymore so i can't critique it very well. I just wanted to come back and make sure it was known where the maps originated from. Looking back, I would check over the map before really getting on it. IIRC, it was pretty rich and somewhat conservative in the ignition, but i don't want to put my name behind it whether the results are good or bad since i did not create the map in the first place and honestly dont remember how good or bad it ran.
