strange sound after clutch install, clutch not engaged

so today i had a shop put on a Exedy stage 1 HD clutch kit( slightly used )
with a resurfaced OEM flywheel along with new pilot bearing and seal and throw-out bearing.
after the job was done the car felt like new again no more slip
how ever, i noticed when im in 1st gear from a stop, rolling and low rpm around 1000~2500 3000 rpm

i can hear this grind sound coming from underneath. both 1st gear 2nd gear i can hear the sound. but once im up on 3000 and up the sound goes away.
i dont hear it in third gear perhaps i shift above 3k when im in 2nd going into third. no weird sound during idle with clutch engaged or disengaged or upon deceleration in gear or out of gear.
only when im rolling from a stop and in really low rpms.

what can this sound be ? the guy at the shop told me to drive it around a few days and see if it goes away. he said

Sounds like transmission input shaft bearing. Maybe too late but check gear oil level.

Are you talking about kind of a "screech" noise when youre releasing the clutch? Pretty sure thats normal with puck clutches.

hmm if you say screech it also sounds like that too
its when the clutch is disengaged and I'm going from a stop 1st gear to 2nd gear.
but the sound only occurs at a 2k rpm spot on

I also messed with the stock main cat took it off and put it back on
could I messed up the split air tube and it's not sealing right ?

if it's the tran input shaft bearing. pretty simple fix right ?

Might be the clutch fork. May have a slight crack.

Hopefully not because it could break and leave you stranded

Throw out bearing is my guess. Could be lots of things though. Uni joint?

I can only guess. won't know until I drop the tran
no rattles or chatter either idle or in gear / neutral .. only that weird sound during 2k rpm in 1st to third gear.

Yep, it could be other things and it's hard to describe noises. But throw out bearing noise is only when the clutch is depressed. Likewise pilot bearing. Input shaft bearing noise is when the clutch is engaged and car is in gear and moving. Typically noise is only heard in the first two or three gears because shaft speed decreases and other nominal noise increases. Anything is possible, but it's hard to imagine a broken fork not making noise thru every gear.
If they R & R'd your transmission for the clutch job it's not uncommon to lose gear oil out of the tail shaft if they're not careful. That's why I suggested you check gear oil level.

Yep I agree I doubt it's the fork just tossing it out there because it's weird for any rotating noise not to be there all the time. Clutch forks tend to let go slowly over time on these cars and the symptoms start out strange but end with the typical can't get it in gear or lurching when in gear and clutch engaged etc...

I'm having the shop check the throw out bearing and Input shaft bearing.

he drove it and said it's most likely thr throw out bearing making the noise. but it's new and the old one didn't make any noise at all that's what concerns me. anyhow he agreed to throw it on the lift and drop it out to have an inspection. thanks guys I'll follow up

If your description is accurate the mechanic's speculation that it's a throw-out bearing makes no sense. It's not in use while the clutch is engaged and the car is moving. Did you ever check the gear oil level?

yes the gear oil level was good and I changed it just now anyways with mobile 1 synthetic 75w90. we didn't get to dropping the trans since just peeping through the hole to see the operations. the sound is coming from just behind the the peep hole towards the rear. right around the gear box I believe? (where the fluid drain hole is at ) only during load in 1st 2nd around 2k rpm. I called it quits with the shop . he suggested we play it by ear. if the sound gets louder or when it actually effects the drivabilitty then we'll drop the tran. and after getting home. I noticed a wobble on the main pulley during idle lol. I'm gonna check up on a few things , belt tension / pulleys tightness . see if there's lose bolts. if it's none of the above, I'm taking the car to a real specialist about 2 hours away and have it done all together. damn lol.

I recorded to the best of my ability to get the sound

if you listen closely second gear at 2k rpm. that's the sounds. comes and gose in 1st. always in 2nd. sometime in third if I'm in low rpm and putting load af I move forward

Youre going to need to put the car on jacks and localize the sound. Its hard to say without pin pointing where its coming from. The video above you said its coming from behind the water pump area. Im going to say pilot or throw out bearing.

^Again, pilot and throw-out bearings only make noise when the clutch pedal is depressed and clutch is disengaged. The op says the noise is heard when the car is in gear and under power and only heard thru the first few gears. That tends to point to the input shaft for reasons already stated. And why his mechanic appears to be full of crap.

Pilot bearing should be opposite.

Im guessing the retards at the shop either let the pins fall out or smashed the **** out of it when reinstalling the tranny

Willing to put money on it. Paypal ready.

Wrong. When the clutch is engaged the engine and transmission input shaft are turning at the same speed, so that bearing isn't in use. Things usually don't make noise when not in use.

Yeah this is true, strange the input shaft bearing would go out after a simple clutch job.

definitely not the clutch fork. I thought the sound was heard with clutch pedal in.

OK so my ears are telling me that may not be the clutch at all but a loose shield or something.

If it's the clutch that isn't good LOL. Check the trans undertray.

Time for OP to jack the car up and localize the noise. We can stay here and guess all day.

while the car was on the lift we tried to reproduce the sound. and it was coming from behind the peep hole towards the rear. ,that general area. while in 2nd gear slightly pressed on the breaks to apply load

I was thinking about that looking at the FD tranny

It made me remember when I dropped a bolt in the transmission of my 323 ...hahaha I know I know l,she did drive good for awhile and was rattling on low gears only eventually bad enough that it needed a new tranny , it was a experimentation (bought it for 300$)

Anyhow you get where I'm going here.
Is it possible that something dropped in it while changing transmission oil ?

Anyhow before getting a new tranny , i would inspect the oil ,open the undercover maybe ? its very strange the issue happen after messing with area around that part...
