Strange place for smoke....

Hi guys, just like every other member on this forum, I've been trying to get my car to run right but every time I fix something, another issue comes up. I just fixed a blown main fuse and started the car. It started up fine and seemed to run well.

After letting it run for about 5 mins, I noticed a small trail of smoke coming from the engine on the drivers side right by the firewall and fender (the corner basically). It seemed like it was coming from this (see pic. The silver square with ridges on it). Can anyone tell me what that is and is there a possibility of it starting to smoke, or is my issue somewhere else?

Ok i figured out it was the fuel pump resistor. Do i have to order this from Ray, or can I pick one up at a local auto parts store? Or can i just disconnect it and not use it? I know more fuel will run through the lines, but will anything else be affected by disconnecting it?

First you need to slow down and do some analytical thinking about your problem.

If you want your fuel pump to wear out quicker than normal, then remove it and jump across its connectors. Thus giving full voltage to the pump 100% of the time. OK for a race only car but not the best for a street car

Buy at a local auto store? HaHa! A low volume import car that has not been imported since 1995?

Contact Ray but you could try on the wanted or sale forums for one first.

Never heard of the fuel pump resistor before. Crazy idea, but could you setup to bypass a the resistor on a switch? I do SCCA on the weekend and for short 2-5 minute track bursts it may not be a bad mod to juice up the pump.

Be careful if it has smoked the fuel pump resistor, because it might have fried some of the wires leading to it as well. Remove it for investigation and double check everything related to it in that location. Nothing worse than an electrical fire

As far as a replacement, you have to go Ray or go second hand parts.. Or go home
