Stock Wheel: Why not use them?
I believe that the stock wheels oxidize after 11 years and become dull. Rather than invest in new wheels and tires, I would like to recover the appearace of the black FD seen in the 1993 brochure. My plan is to get the wheels sand blasted, removing all of the coating. I'll then have them re-sealed. Any thoughts or experiences with same?
With the stock suspension/brakes/ set-up I expect the stock wheel/tire sizes to optimize FD handling, when all factors are considered.

The stock wheels are painted silver (not just clear-coated aluminum). Wheel repair/refinishing shops can make them look pretty again. I've seen some refinished ones and they looked better than new.
The only problem with the stock wheels is that you are limited in tire size. Many people want larger tires for their performance benefits, especially if you have a lot of power and need the extra traction.

To add to what Max said, i recommend running 245/46/16 at each corner. You maximize contact patch while keeping the stock sidewall/gearing #s.
The stock wheels have lots of benefits. Light, fairly wide (for stock wheels) and lots of space to help cool the brake rotors. Lots of supra, maxima, 300zx guys use them, esp on the rear for drag racing.

While you're at it, have the wheel shop test for out-of-round.
Some of the silver paints are pretty impressive.
My SSR wheels look just shy of chrome with their brilliant silver paint finish.
