stock turbo movement?

I took my stock turbos out there is a little play in the shaft no more then a couple of centimeters. Is this too much play or is it normal?

That's because when there is oil pressure and the shaft is spinning, then there will be a nice and even oil bearing around the shaft. There needs to be at least a little space around the shaft so that the oil bearing can flow less restricted and your shaft will spin less restriced. If there was no play in there, you can probably imagine the friction problems as the shaft reached rotations of 50,000rpm and above. This is why the cool-down is vital to avoid oil baking on to the shaft and clean oil is important to prevent wear and friction.

Bryan at B&R Supercars (link to his sight at the top) is the best one to ask about shaft end play. He rebuilds turbos and has all the answers to your turbo questions....nice guy too.
