Red face Stock turbo housing questions (pic heavy)

Today I finally got my twins off, luckily not as difficult as some have said. I've had a rear turbo leaking oil all over the side of the engine so I knew it had a bad seal and needed to be replaced. Once I got them off I got nosey and now have a few questions.

When I bought this car, the seller said that the primary turbo waste-gate had been ported. Does this look like it has been ported?

Flapper closed:

Secondly, it looks like there's some significant cracks around the wastegate area. The cracks go all the way through, so how likely is this affecting my boost? I couldn't find the thread but I remember another member having boost problems and tracked it down to cracks in the wastegate area. Since I can't find the post I can't compare at the moment, so I'm wondering if I need to find another housing to use?

At least there's no crack on the manifold flange.

I bought a set of twins from another member to use as a spare. I knew these didn't have a ported wastegate so if the primary was in bad shape I was going to port these. However, they have similar cracking around the wastegate as the set that was on my car. Is this housing any better?

First off, that wastegate has NOT been ported, no way no how. It still has casting roughness there, it would be smooth if it was ported and it would be larger.

Second, don't get too excited about cracks. Many people get hugely carried away with cracks there, it's not that big of a deal. The amount of exhaust gas that could leak out and bypass the wastegate is very small. The only place where cracking is a concern is on the flange where the turbos mate to the exhaust manifold, if the cracking there gets big enough where it's on the gasket mating surface it could blow gaskets out and cause an exhaust leak.

If you can track down a set of N3C1 turbos they're the later '95+ turbos that have FAR less problems with cracking. They have a higher nickel content in the manifolds, they're still not perfect but far better than the N3A1 original turbos. This is NOT the N3G1 turbos which are the 99 spec 280hp turbos.

The part number is stamped on the secondary compressor housing, BTW.

That's what I thought, I just needed a veteran to confirm.

It's really frustrating to keep finding all these missing upgrades that were supposedly done to the car before I bought it.
