Stock seat weight

Hey guys I just need to know what your stock leather seats weigh. I'm wanting to get tan leather racing seats for my car but I can't find any, and for the cost of getting cheap ones recovered I could buy some damn nice seats. So of thought since you guys have such a light car, maybe you're seats would be pretty light to, not to mention they look pretty good also. I know my drivers seat weighs around 60-70 and the passenger is 40-50 so they're pretty heavy. So any help would be great!
Thanks
Ryan

The are the same weight, 38-40lbs IIRC.

60-70lbs is WAY TO HIGH of an estimate.

That is including the sliding brackets, correct Clayne? That's really not that bad as far as factory (tubular steel frame) seats are concerned.

Has anyone replaced theirs with something lighter? If so, what kind of weight savings are we looking at?

Paul Winter weighed his at 34 lbs on a postal scale with brackets. I got 38 lbs on my home scale with brackets.

I'm using a Kirkey racing seat which is 18 lbs, but you can find ultra light carbon fiber/kevlar seats (Momo, Sparco, etc) that weigh only 12.5 lbs each.

Some weight stuff here.

I suspect the weight of the stock seat varies with the covering -- base cloth, R-model suede-like cloth, and leather. The driver and passenger seats should weigh about the same.

Gene, you're using aftermarket brackets with those seats, correct? Any idea what the brackets weigh? I had some cheapo ones on my Subaru, and the brackets must've weighed a good 15-25 lbs each. They might have been heavier than the seats.

Thanks for the link by the way, it looks like the factory sliders weigh 10-15lbs. Stock seats w/o brackets are listed as 28 lbs.

Absolutely the same. They're mirror images of each other, with the exception of the seat belt warning harness, and I don't think a couple wires make that much of a difference.

Sorry Jim, you're wrong! My driver side weighed close to 2 pounds more than the passenger side! Of course that's because there was about $12.00 in change in it.

I've got a stock passenger seat completely disassembled right now - anyone really need to know rail weights?

I suspect the stock brackets are ligher than 10, but I'm not very good at weight estimates without a scale.

Dgeesaman, do you mind?

I'm using a MOMO universal bracket with some custom fabbed straps that weigh about 5 lbs combined.

Be careful with seat selection in the FD. In general, bottom mount seats do not work very well due to the stock floor pan cross braces. Same thing for Miatas (had to remove mine). This causes the seats to sit higher than one would desire.

Side mounts are better in this regard and are much lighter, but you lose adjustability. Sparco makes fine mounts if you're not inclined to fab them yourself.

I think the original post is not from an FD owner just from the way its worded. I'm guessing his driver seat is loaded with extras, whereas the passenger isn't maybe? I could be totally wrong about this but he has a car and wants lighter seats, IE FD seats. Maybe? I could be totally off, but juding from his post counting hes new here!

You have no idea how hard I searched my house for my 10lb digital fishing scale. No dice, so the weights will wait until I find it.

Also, I've disassembled both passenger and driver seats. They are nearly identical, just as Jimlab said.

Recaro SPGs, glass fiber + reinforced plastic GRP, weigh in around 12 lb. There's really no reason to buy the CF SPAs - outrageously expensive.

Forgot the PP, it won't fit easily - I tried.
