Stock manual shifter question

I am about to install my manual tranny ( conversion ) and had a stock shifter question. When you remove the center console, is there a felt like pad under there somewhere ? I bought one from MAzda cause it showed it on the parts breakdown, just wondered where it fit in on the install. I have the rubber boot with the 4 corner holes and a B/M shifter.

Yeah, it acts as an insulator.

There are from the shifter housing going up...

1 3-bolt insulator (attached to shift rod)
1 4 bolt insulator
2 circular insulators that fit over the 4-bolt insulator
1 felt pad
console / shifter boot

That's my stock shifter setup. I don't think the felt thing is worth buying, but the bottom insulator is important to keeping the shifter in place.

I only used the rubber insulators, they offer plenty of insulation so I didnt feel the last one was needed.

Ok, I am going with the b/m so it will be the B/m shifter, b/m rubber boot, stock 4 bolt rubber boot and felt pad then console. Or I may leave out the pad.

Thanks, Tom
