I think that the problem with stock intercooler is that is very small so the air become to hot and that is very bad for the engine.
I am working to install a big fun on stock intercooler so I can decrease the air temp.
I dont think that stock intercooler have problem with air amount.

seriously, if you are going to the trouble of modifying it, don't bother. have you looked at the SMIC? it is *puny*, and is about the worst looking IC I've ever seen. Just upgrade to a better one.

Airflow is not the most major problem with the factory intercooler. The major problem lies in the fact that the end-tanks are made of plastic, which conducts heat rather than radiates it. This makes them next to useless in a high temperature, demanding environment.
One potential improvement for these intercoolers is to add a water spray system, which as the name suggests, sprays water onto the intercooler fins to aid cooling. I've heard that such a system can improve efficiency by up to 40% (which is actually a pretty good result... if it is true), although I've not had this independently confirmed. Of course, this does involve regular maintenance to ensure that your water spray tank is always full. I considered this option when I first got my FD, and decided to go with a new intercooler (stock mounting) instead. This is not a popular modification - I've only seen two cars that use water spray systems - a '94 FD (street) and a Nissan Skyline used for circuit racing.
