stock fd's any good? need advice

I've been looking to purchase a fd. So is it *okay* to purchase a 7 that's been running with basically all stock parts for the past 12 yrs? It worries me that 7's are understandably driven hard by their owners, but for so long with stock cooling, piping etc.. should i be prepared to perfrom some major fix ups?

Is there a definative FAQ somewhere of which stock components should be switched out for aftermarket replacements? I'd like to start out just making sure the car runs reliably and clean. Where's a good point to start at?

And for buying advice, are there generally known *Buyer Beware* characteristics i should look for when selecting a used vehicle.

thanks
