Question Is the stock elbow thick enough to tap?

I want to relocate the air temp sensor to the intake elbow, but I don't know if the plastic is going to be thick enough to tap. Any ideas??

should be thick enough to tap. Just put a rubber grommet in there to get a proper seal.

what are you gonna plug the hole in the UIM with?

I'm planning on leaving the air temp sensor that's in there alone (it's busted anyway). I'm just going to tap a new hole for the new sensor and run the wire around.

Do many people do this? I can see why it would be convenient, as those damn code 11's happen often... the thing I wonder about is if the intake temp is different in the manifold, than it is in the elbow.

Yeah, there's going to be a huge difference. The sensory, being in the manifold, has a tendency to heatsoak. By putting it in a plastic elbow, it won't have that same tendency. When you say use an o-ring, do you mean on the end of the threads toward the back of the sensor?

You're right, the UIM would retain the heat much longer than the plastic elbow. I was thinking about that but I had it backwards

Use the grommet like a washer, so that you wont overtighten it and risk cracking the plastic.

Sounds like a cool little mod. I might just take my IM off again to do that. Im thinking i'd place it on top, near where the TB connects to the elbow, as that area doesnt have much of a curvature.

I was thinking about putting it on the bottom side of the elbow just so there isn't any issues with hood clearance. But either way should work. You wouldn't have any clue what size tap I'd need would you??
