Stock ECU Tuning w/Laptop or IPaq

Hi I am enw to the forums, I am 15, I was a mechanic for a while I have your standerd V8 drag race car. 1985 Mustang LX carbd with a built up 3spd automatic. A friend of mine is kinda an ignorant ricer and I am trying to teach him that NOS is not the only brand of nitrous, and that theres such thing as a cost effective mod. He (I am jealous) owns a 3rd Gen RX-7 body kit + rims.

He has an IPaq/Pocket PC and his parents are wealthy enough if to buy him a Laptop if he can so much as barely justify it to them its use. What (hopefully free) programs are available to hook up to his ECU? How are they installed or hooked up? (I am pretty mechanically inclined with a moderate knowledge of wiring.) Whats required for install? What about the equivelent of an OBD scanner on the laptop or Ipaq? The laptop and pocket pc are both windows based. Not sure exactly what windows OS is ont he IPaq whatever is defaul, as for the laptop i can install any OS but would prefer to stick with windows cause Linux would confuse him.

I do not know of any free programs that can hack into the RX-7 ecu. The only ecu you can use with laptop software is the AEM ecu. You can download the AEM software off the AEM website, but it won't do you any good unless you have the AEM ecu.

LMAO @ spending 1500 to propetly tune your turbo engine. Where I come from, you put stronger parts in your carb, screw with some stuff, and it costs you about $200 and some more time for the same result. You take whats left over to the junkyard to find a diesel truck with a rebuildable turbo.

where is it that YOU come from??? the year 1965???... for being 15 you shure sound a lot like an old timer " no replacement for displacement " ... stronger parts in your carb?? what?? so you take a stock V8, screw with some **** and spend $200 and you get 100 more hp? no you dont. next time try to do a search so we dont have to flame you again

you know if we could find everything in 'search' we would never have to ask any questions.
then there would be no need for a forum.

Let's not forget the great user name. Give us all a break.

Welcome to the world of fuel injection and sophisticated engine controls on a fairly rare sports car. I don't know of too many other stock ecus that are pre OBD-II that you can just "plug in hack away" with either.

Why don't you quit wasting our time?

Wow, so at 15... before you can legally drive on your own you have owned a race car (Read: 85' Mustang) and worked for a shop as a mechanic (When they require you to be 18) OMFG, you are car master, I bow to you master-san!

Reality... your be all 5.0 is torquey and yea it doesnt cost much to get it going, doesnt make it a race car. Also, at 15 you arent even driving without mommy holding your hand. If you managed to work at a shop you were probably either a porter or working illegally which ofcourse neither must of worked out too well as you USED to work there. I love the name by way, you must be a gangsta from the hood, strait up!

I'm rather concerned about the fact your friend owns a FD at 15... I'd consider 17-18 reasonable but an FD is not a good first car.

Well, I don't see this thread going any further.

Question asked and answered. Tune the stock ECU, no.
