stock clutch & power

Well, as usual of late I keep getting "page cannot be displayed" messages when I try to search, so funk that.

I am wondering if the stock clutch is sufficient for my mods. I was going to order an ACT clutch through the RX7store.net, but I'm not getting any response and I need a clutch literally ASAP.

I'm going non-sequential with a mild street port, intake, downpipe and N-tech cat. I'm also swapping the water/alternator pulleys with GReddys.

I'm not going for monster power, rather (hopefully) longevity. I'm going to keep the boost at ~10lbs.

I would GUESS I'll be seeing around 300 at the crank. I don't think the stock clutch would have a problem with that power, but I'm not sure...and since I can't get the ACT clutch I may just call Mazda and get an OEM one due to time constraints with my mechanic.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

ps: I've thought of just telling my mechanic to put the old one back in, but it was already slipping before when I just had an intake and DP.

If you need a new clutch, I would recommend going ahead and upgrading to the ACT clutch. That way *if* you decide to go for big power later, your clutch will already be ok.

Don't forget to either get a new flywheel or have your current stock one resurfaced.

BTW, my stock clutch is slipping bad with my mods below..

You will need a new clutch with those mods. The stock clutch can not hold them. My clutch lost it with a dp and catback. It really sucks when it doesn't hold. I think I've gotten it to slip in everything from 3rd and up. Even if it doesn't totally get away from you, it will still slow you down. Sometimes, it just slips enough for the revs to climb small amounts and then fall back again, but no speed is gained when it does that. It will stink pretty bad too. I ordered the ACT street/strip and flywheel combo from Jason at the store. It should be in pretty soon and will probably go in this week.

I installed a NEW stock clutch when I put in my flywheel. No slipping issues in over 2 years. I'm sure the ACT is better, though. Call Racing Beat and have them give you a recommendation...

BTW: there is more than one place to get the ACT clutch

Problem solved! I got a hold of Jason finally The reason I wasn't looking anywhere else to get an ACT clutch is because A) I try to support Jason and the forum, and B) I needed to exchange a clutch I bought previously - I ordered the wrong one.

So it's all cool, now. But if anyone knows why the search function is being a PITA I'd like to know
