Stock CD-player....cd-r problems....

Are the stock units in the 3rd gens prone to being picky about what type of CD-Rs they play? I have a 95, and it plays some, but most of them it constantly skips. Store bought cds play fine however. Is this known or is the unit going bad?

If its a known problem is there any specific type I can use?

Thanks

Time to update your player, if you can even get it to play a CDR it's more luck than anything else. Most CDR disc copies will play for awhile but CDR copilations I had no luck with. I have since gone to a mini-disc in dash player with a cd changer in the back. CD technology has come a long way since 95

My OEM CD player won't play any CD-R. Even the commercially produced ones skip alot on bumps. My coilovers probably don't help though. I'm not really knowlegable about this stuff, but was also told it's just old tech.
FWIW, I did a search a while ago and have been considering a NAKAMICHI AM/FM CD single DIN. Low-key simple design and the back-light is suppose to be a pretty good match for rest of the FD's amber dash lights.

The only reason I went with a MD was because I have a recorder in the house, there easy enough to transport (usually have in my camera case) and I can record the songs while I'm playing around on the forum. That and they take a very large bump to make skip, plus I have a cd changer hooked to it any way.
