stock airbox hose clips help!!!

i want to vent stock bov to atmosphere and i can't figure out how to unlock those hose clamps. any suggestions or techniques. also the bov is the brown disk right next to the airbox right? not the one near the back of the engine. thanks in advance.

You can remove both hoses if you want. But yes the one closest to the air box is the BOV. My suggestion is use vise grips. It will come off.

will there be a bad effect if i remove the top hose too? what does it do? and i use vise grips and push the 2 little prongs together correct? will they be reusable if i take them off? or do they break when taking off?

Yes you can reuse them and there will be no ill effects by removing both hoses. Charge relief and BOV that is.

Those hose clips are a bitch. For years, I used a vise grip pliers, but it was tough going and it chewed the paint off the clips. Finally I found the way to do it. There's a tool available at Ace Hardware. It's called the Quick-Grip Handi-Clamp. It's yellow with black rubber pads on the end of it, and it has a racheting-locking action. The perfect tool for the job. Makes compressing the hose clips a snap, and it holds them in the compressed position so you can pull the hose out from underneath the clamp. The part # is 59200.
The UPC code is 38548-59200. I think it costs around $6.

Why would you want to remove the stock bov hose that goes to the air box?. The car won't idle right when you do that. If you do that you have to seal the hole that the hose came from the air box. That air box makes some sort of vacume for the car i think. I know I did it once to hear the noise that comes from the bov and the car just didn't act right. Maybe I'm wrong but try it out.

Eh, you will be ok if you leave the airbox open as far as idling goes; the hole in our stock air boxes isnt large enough to effect the vacuum, at least that is what i found. We tried it on my buddies 98 GST and the hole is huge and the thing couldnt idle and would barely move. The reason you plug it up is so the box doesnt suck anything in...vent the stock BOV and you may end up thinking twice about an aftermarket kit; the stock is surprisingly loud

I'm sorry this might be a dumb question, but what do you mean exactly by vent my stock bov? Since there isn't a open and close valve in the stock ones can't it leak pressure and maybe effect preformance? i would like to do that mod and just get a little noise and not loose any preformance or mess up anything else.

Just slide the clamp back and pull off the BOV hose going to the airbox.
You can just let it hang, but you'll want to plug the airbox fitting. A 16oz clear drinking water bottle cap slides over it perfectly.

You may like the stock BOV sound for a day or two. Sounds like a quiff and it may wear on you, as well as the stupid looks you get from pedestrians unlike a GReddy or HKS "tweeter". The vented stock BOV is pretty loud. Try it out, it can't hurt anything.
