Stock 93 touring + downpipe with occasional cutout = problems?
I have a stock FD and i wanted to add a downpipe for my first mod... ok well technically i added a timer and a boost guage also, but you guys know wut i mean =). I know just having a downpipe isnt bad or anything because its not that huge of a mod but i know there are some of you running open downpipe which would be the same as running with an open cut-out. I did a search and read about heavily porting my wastegate. heating things up under the car due to flames, etc. But there were too much side tracking also and not any dircect answers. I just want to know if there's anyone out there running this mod or similar without any problems and if so please state.
**Remember I am running a cutout which means majority of the time the cutout will be closed = running normal downpipe. And when a concieted **** rolls up... then open goes the cutout =)**

ive researched steps that should be taken when adding a downpipe/midpipe set up and i know that they reccommend to add have a piggyback ecu such as PFC, Haltech, etc. Can you guys specify actual problems that happenned before? Not theoretic ones? I myself will get a piggyback ECU sooner or later but i didnt think i would need one as soon as just adding a downpipe/cutout.

Also, a piggyback ecu would be a PFS or similar computer.
The PFC, haltech, microtech, AEM EMS and similar ECU's are standalones that completely replace the stock ECU.
DO NOT RUN AN OPEN EXHAUST ON YOUR CAR UNLESS YOU WANT TO REBUILD THE MOTOR.

Don't waste your time with a piggy-back computer. Spend the money and but a decent stand alone. You can easily find a PFC or haltec for a alot cheaper than a new engine.

I like the Pettit ECU and has severed me well and is setup to run with common bolt-ons. If you're going to keep modifing your FD then a standalone ECU might be a better idea.

as long as you can keep your boost in check, you should be fine. as for flammage, just make a flame sheild out of sheet metal to protect your undercarriage and you should be fine
