Stock 93 touring + downpipe with occasional cutout = problems?

I have a stock FD and i wanted to add a downpipe for my first mod... ok well technically i added a timer and a boost guage also, but you guys know wut i mean =). I know just having a downpipe isnt bad or anything because its not that huge of a mod but i know there are some of you running open downpipe which would be the same as running with an open cut-out. I did a search and read about heavily porting my wastegate. heating things up under the car due to flames, etc. But there were too much side tracking also and not any dircect answers. I just want to know if there's anyone out there running this mod or similar without any problems and if so please state.
**Remember I am running a cutout which means majority of the time the cutout will be closed = running normal downpipe. And when a concieted **** rolls up... then open goes the cutout =)**

Sure there wont be a problem, if you've got an aftermarket ECU. If you do it on the stock ecu, your looking for trouble.

I agree. A cutout would be even more aggessive than a straight-thru exhaust. Research what it takes for a midpipe setup to give yourself and idea.

ive researched steps that should be taken when adding a downpipe/midpipe set up and i know that they reccommend to add have a piggyback ecu such as PFC, Haltech, etc. Can you guys specify actual problems that happenned before? Not theoretic ones? I myself will get a piggyback ECU sooner or later but i didnt think i would need one as soon as just adding a downpipe/cutout.

You've obviously not researched enough, as running an open downpipe, or a downpipe+midpipe, or downpipe with a cut out, your going to run lean and you are going to detonate and you are going to lose compression due to apex seal issues.

Also, a piggyback ecu would be a PFS or similar computer.
The PFC, haltech, microtech, AEM EMS and similar ECU's are standalones that completely replace the stock ECU.

DO NOT RUN AN OPEN EXHAUST ON YOUR CAR UNLESS YOU WANT TO REBUILD THE MOTOR.

Don't waste your time with a piggy-back computer. Spend the money and but a decent stand alone. You can easily find a PFC or haltec for a alot cheaper than a new engine.

I like the Pettit ECU and has severed me well and is setup to run with common bolt-ons. If you're going to keep modifing your FD then a standalone ECU might be a better idea.

as long as you can keep your boost in check, you should be fine. as for flammage, just make a flame sheild out of sheet metal to protect your undercarriage and you should be fine

I decided to buy a stand alone. Apexi PFC to be exact. I wanted the AEM EMS. but my the farthest i want to go for tuning specialize in power fc's. So ill just go best with that. I will run open cut out and have it tuned for open... which ill run rich closed... but i wont be running with it closed unless im in an ecnlosed area such as neighborhoods and places that i cant be too loud... **COPS!**
