Im not to sure about the 60ft times . But it was at englishtown nj , race way park, AND SUMMER TIME. VERY FREAKIN HOT SUMMER this past summer.. So maybe it was that heat.. Ohhh maybe cuz of stock clucth.. who knows, i think it was the heat though.. we were baking out there. hot weather, and turbo cars, sheesh

 

187 awhp sounds very high for an awd car with 227 at the crank. That only equals out to 17-18% drivetrain loss which is what a rwd car would lose through the drivetrain. I though I read that they dyno somewhere in the 150s which would be closer to 30% which seems right - i dunno - I don't own a WRX and haven't even raced one so I'm not sure - but 187 awhp seems high for a stock WRX

 

Well, that was after a good breakin.. I have seen alot in the 160-187 range.. Mine was actually one of the highest i have seen.

But 150 i would consider fairly low. Was the engine broke in all the way? cause you will not get as good a power out of a new motor.


Maybe i got a wendesday car or whatever.

 

speaking of breakin in. WHat is the proper way to break in a car.. Cuz many ppl have diffrent beliefs towards that subject.. Some say i cant even down shift to slow down. some say no long highway drives, etc...

 

From my understanding there are 2 schools of though. (These are for piston engines, not rotaries)

1. Start the car, let it idle 20 minutes. Then take it out and go ***** out on it.. This helps seat the rings and bed the pistons.

2. Start the car, let it idle 20 minutes. Then drive it with only light load and no boost. Never going over 3K and change the oil at 500 miles. Do this for the 1st 1K - 3K miles.



I personally went with the latter.

ok my take on the wrx is this

the car needs upgrades...stock isnt that impressive due to lack of feedback...

my mechanic is the head tech at subaru...he drives them all day and he thinks their great car...the bad name comes from teenagers gettin in the car and realizing if u rev to 7k and dump the clutch u can beat 75% of the cars on the road...but it only lasts about a month

ive test drove them b4....i was gettin thru the gears and it felt like i wasnt goin anywhere....but look down at the speedo and im hittin 85...the car dosnt feel like its really goin anywhere
if u wanna go fast get a wrx thro in a 2.5 rs block with je pistons and everythin else built and there isnt much that can touch u

 

I give the WRX respect, but not for me, I am partial to 2 doors although I love the feel of thier seats.
ive worked on a few and they are not to hard to work on except the up-pipe was a PITA and its not like a midpipe it actually goes between the header and turbo but still has a precat in it

 

Actually that is the one point i don't like about the WRX.. The engineering on some of it is just messy, doesn't seem real well thought out.

And there are some quality control issues in the earlier models.. I found missing exhaust studs on mine, and a few stripped ones.. I was a little pissed at the time


But things like that don't really matter to people like me, cause i will eventually change everything anyway. assuming i keep mine.

I think what most people forget is the WRX, was not ment to be competition for the RX-7.. But it just happens that moded correctly, it can do ok. and for only ~22-25K it is probably one of the best cars on the market right now IMO.


But it really shines in the mud.

 

Of course...the NEON SRT-4 is busting out 14's now...stock.

So..I'd have to say the Neon just took that title.

Well i still wouldn't give it any titles.. I have known way to many people that have owned neons.. and give then 30K miles and they will be falling apart, unless dodge changed alot.


But hey you are allowed your opinion. I bough my WRX, you get a neon..

Actually, i started thinking of buying an evo today

 

the flat four on the wrx is pretty reliable...especially compared to the rotary! lol. the transmission on the current wrx hasn't been updated since the early 90s, which contributes to the many broken trannies that we often hear about. as for the engineering on the wrx, i'd have to say that the engineering on the rx-7's is worse, powerplant to powerplant. come on, let's not forget things like the immensely complex sequential twin turbo system, you know, all those beautiful vacuum lines! compared to the rx-7, the wrx is fairly easy to work with, reliable, and responds very well to modifications.

the stock wrx dyno numbers i usually hear of are around 160-165awhp. 150 would be pretty low.

given awd, the wrx will usually out-launch an rx-7 simply due to traction issues. once up to speed, the driveline losses of the awd disadvantage it relative to a 2wd car like the rwd rx-7. remember, once you're up to speed, weight starts to matter less as it takes less power to keep mass already in motion. joed pretty much sums it up, they'll take you off the line but if both of you were going flat out, you'd probably eventually catch up and pass him. of course, this is assuming the race was one big *** straight line.

the wrx certainly isn't a sports car in the purist sense (2 door, rwd, etc.) but it certainly performs like one (especially the sti). given how much the car costs, its a very good deal performance-wise. it certainly is a driver's car with very good handling and power. i still enjoy driving my wrx even thoe it's been stock for almost a year now. out of the box, off the showroom floor, it is still one of the best driving cars out there. it may not look beautiful doing what it does best but it does what it does while carrying five passengers, luggage, and in terrain that would make an rx-7 cry.

i love my rx-7 but i love my wrx too.

i hear you about the alternator too.

 

150-155 mph...somewhere in there....that was when i was completely stock...my exit was coming up so i hit the breaks.
