stock 7 vs modified wrx

my boy got a wrx and he has a intake, dp, up pipe(midpipe for wrx),tein flex coilovers and his car is lowered 2 inches in the front and back, boost controller and some other goodies. he said he is making somewhere between 260-270awhp. i was wondering can a stock rx7 take him???? cuz i know i can woop him in my 7 but just wondering what a stock one could do.

No, a WRX with an exhaust & MBC runs low 13s.. As in 13.1

And will kill a stock FD.

Oh, and with an Exhaust and MBC, he is not making 250AWHP.. Closer to 200AWHP.

Still, an EBC is not going to make up anything.

My WRX dynoed 187AWHP stock.. With full exhaust and MBC, i expect to be a little over 200AWHP now, and a low 13sec car now.

With those mods, WRXs run low-13s, but only trap at 100 mph, the same as a stock FD. A higher E.T. but similar trap speed shows that the car is pulling much harder than the other and gaining ground as the speed increases.

On the freeway, say from 60-140, both of you will be tied at first, then you will start pulling hard after 100. Off-the-line, you will get beat, and you will have to race for quite a distance for you to eventually catch up and pass.

basically an all wheel drive car (lancer and wrx) will kick your butt off the line but in higher speeds it don't matter how much their boosting that weight slows them down.

My friend has a WRX with downpipe, cat back, intake, clutch, and ECU chip. Runs a 12.94@106mph with street tires.

I would be neck and neck on the highway when I had a slipping clutch and he would walk me hard on a low roll. His car is stupid quick with those mods. He even says it's probably a freak car.

wrx's suck they will def not beat a rx-7 i race people in my town all the time. i smoke them.... i work for subaru and drive them all the time cause i am a technican. they feel slow, not half as responsive, and they like to break alot... i have also never seen a motor leak so much oil being as new as they are... they suck... but i dont think our fd's will have a chance against a stock sti which will be coming out this june.

My WRX now weighs 3K. Not exactly heavy.. But about 200lbs on an FD.

Where do you get heavy from? It is VERY light for a car with an AWD drivetrain.

And a WRX that runs a 13.1 will probably be as fast, if not faster then a FD that only gets a 13.5-14.1 from a roll..

So the WRX will kill it in the 1/4 mile and about even in a roll.

Wow.. for a "Subaru Technician" you really dont know what your talking about. There are only two major problems with a Subaru. Tranny and Electrical.

The tranny breaks because of stuped people who dont know what they are doing and think they are the next Dominic Toretto. They dont know how to drive go around beating the **** outta them like some Honda civic (ironicly the same reason rx-7's have such a bad name).

Also the alt. doesn't make enough power to work all the electrical systems in the car at once. If you have one try it. Turn all your lights on (dash, Headlights, Fogs, Roof lights) and rev the engine. Watch the lights get brighter and dimmer.

Sounds like you are working for the wrong company buddy. Its people like you that make me not wanna take my car to a dealership. If you hate the car so much then why are you working on them?

I know a tone of people with Subaru's (including me) and I have never once heard of them leaking oil, unless your talking about the Justy. Also if anything because of the Awd they are more responsive that any other car I have driven (aside from there lack of top end). That and there tight gearing makes them a tone of fun to drive. I dont know what the hell your compairing it to but I think you got your facts a little mixed up.

AGREED! I was 100% satisfied with my Subaru and it was reliable as an Ox! I have NEVER heard anyone complaining about anything withe their Subaru other than touchy ECUs and sissy trannies.

Well Subaru quality control kinda sux.. at least when the WRX 1st came out.. There have been a few problems with quality..

But the only real problem i see with the car is, too touchy ABS, and the ECU likes to pull timming stock.

Other then that, if you are upgrading it really doesn't matter now does it?

i test drove one and was let down..definately nothing even close to my fd.
I was looking for a daily driver. It didnt have the power, the handling, or ergonomics that i was led to believe...i passed.

its a step up in performance from a honda accord or something..i wasnt feeling it.

Well, WRXs are a good platform. But stock they have way to many restrictions..

One other thing to think of the WRX is 22K base, while the FD was closer to 36K 10 years ago..

So of course it is not going to be the best fastest thing out. But with a few mods it really comes to life and becomes a joy to drive. Just like the RX-7.

My friend has a wrx with downpipe , full exhaust and turbo xs uni chip upgrade.. With 18 inch wheels (brands i dont kno) and suspension upgrades , and bigger top mount intercooler he ran 13.0 consistantly. with the nitrous that sprays the intercooler he did around 12.9 or something but that was like once or twice..but I agree that that car is a potential beast! Rx7 and wrx are two diffrent categories.. and each deserves a lot of respect.. both tuned and modified correctly will be monsters..as is any other car.. get a piece of crap, and do it right, you got your self a monster.. now a days you never know what someone is packin under the hood!.

Wow, what kind of 60fts was he getting, or was it in a really high elevation? that seems a little slow..

I'm really surprised, I test drove a WRX and I thought it was slow. I also race them all the time (even when I was closer to stock specs) and never really had a problem with them. I need to look into the WRX again.

We have had the WRX and WRX STI in the UK for some time now. A friend of mine has got a new WRX, and to be honest, I thought the performance was a bit disappointing. Now the STI is a whole different story. If any of you get a chance to ride in one of these stock, you'll love it. They are great fun with plenty of power!

Oh and another thing, Subaru have been rated very highly for their reliability in Europe, even against the german manufacturers, so if there are any issues they are likely to be driver based IMO
