i have a 1993 single turbo rx7 with 2 row fmic, fluidyne radiator, and custom vacuum air vent thing that fits under the car and directs air into the radiator, fan on the passenger side works but the fan motor is slowly going. basically on a cold day my car will get up to 102 C with no hesitation...i just put in a new thermostat..and yet she still heats up...we remounted the FMIC and still getting too much heat....what should i do? and could all of this be caused because my passenger side fan doesnt always start up and run properly??? suggestions wanted answers neeeded...ha well thanks and peace out

 

replace the fans, im gussing the engine is over heating correct? is there any white smoke?

If your fans aren't functioning correctly then I would imagine that's your problem.

You already compromised the system by placing that intercooler in front of everything how do you expect it to run cool enough without the fans.

Unless everything else is functioning properly, and optimized, a FMIC is a horrible idea. Of course, I think it is a horrible idea regardless, but that is a different discussion.

I'm assuming that you have stood up your radiator for the FMIC?

If so, you need some kind of panel to close the air space b/w the FMIC and the radiator on top so that air doesn't escape through this top gap. You also need to close off the gaps on the sides too.

You have to also turn the fans on early too to prevent too much heat mass accumulating.

 

Don't underestimate the "power of the fans". Those things kick ***! When they are switched on to "high" they drop water temps like a rock.

Get them fixed and make then come-on sooner...you'll need to do the "fan mod", get a Miata thermosensor or Datalogit/PFC...

 

well today i replaced the fans and yet she is still running at 95 celsius i want high 70's celsius sooo i think somehow the waterpump must be broken...not that its blades are bad...but that the shaft on the waterpump has snapped and isnt moving the blades just turning on the pulley....??? any new suggestions????

 

Does you temp drop at highway speeds, if it does, your water pump is working. Your cooling capacity (radiator maybe the problem).
If not, try changing the thermostat first, then the water pump.
95 C (203 F) is the correct temp if it can be maintained constant. Normal operating temp should be 190 - 210F. High 70 C (173 F) is too low to run, your thermostat wouldn't even open. Don't get paranoid.

 

The stock thermostat starts to open around 180 F.
