steering column mounted gauge pod
hello all,
question for you, who makes the best (most stock, and least invasive) boost gauge pod for the steering column?
I'm not looking to glue or drill, just snap out the old and snap in the new.
also, i assume the old doesnt get damaged and can easily be put back on?
thanks so much,
eric

No such part with all that criteria.
I don't know of one that simply "snaps" into place like the original cover. The older RE-A one might, but it's made for RHD cars so it requires some modifications to work. The RX-7 Store one doesn't require those types of modifications, but you have to find your own way to fasten it down (and it will require breaking the little tabs that the original cover used to snap down on).

I've heard that the RE cover works great, you just need to notch out the right side for the wiper controls, as the controls are on the left side on the Japan cars. And as far as I know, it snaps in place just like the original one.

You might bug Jason at the RX7Store and see if he can still get them. I know he can get more items than what's on the website, so I'm sure he can help you out.

A couple years ago I got in on a RX7 Club GP for a Pettit column gauge pod (just the pod - no gauge) for about $65. It replaces the factory part directly and is held on only with black silicone, which is easily removed. You don't have to break any tabs or damage the car in any way to mount it, but I did have to Dremel the pod's edges and gauge opening to improve the fit.

anyone got a pic of the pettit one? is it a replica of the RE pod or is there only one style possible. I mean the way it tilts toward you, etc.

Off topic: From searching here on the forum I decided on the DEFI guages, at least for my relatively stock car. Very happy, especially at night. You have to look twice to see any difference btwn DEFI and OEM guages.

The RE Amemiya pod does snap onto the tabs and does not need any additional adhesive. However, you do have to trim it to clear the stock turn signal stalk, and it costs >$200.
