Starting up FD after 1 year

I got into accident a year ago and left my rx7 sitting in my driveway. I tried to start it for the first time today and the idle is reallly rough with tons of smoke. Prior to the accident the engine ran perfect.

Engine was not affected in the accident only suspension. Both airbags were deployed in the accident. Does the computer run on some kind of mode after an accident and needs to be reset? No check engine light came on. There is prob less then a gallon of gas in the tank. Old gas prob? I put another gallon of fresh gas in there and it was still a rough idle.

Good suggestions by allrotor93. I would give it a general tune up. Plugs, oil, fresh gas, and maybe take it on an easy drive around the block. Any mods?

A single gallon isn't going to delute a bad gallon. Put some "water remover" in it and put at least 5 gallons of fresh gas in.

I would add fuel filter to that as well.

I would just drain them all and put fresh gas in it.

wow will 1 year of this new gas (with 10% ethanol) go bad that fast? My FD sat for 10 years with 1/4 tank of gas and the normal ambient humidity here is 80-85% year round! About a month ago I fired her up and she started right up. Been warming her up weekly and running her occationally since with the same gas and no problems with the old gas I had.

perhpas you just dont have enough gas in the tank.

Did you pull the fuel pump and look in the tank? Using 1/4 tank of decade old gas is plain wrong.

Not that it won't work, it's just better to run fresh gas through it. My MX-6 sat for 3.5 yrs and I dropped a new motor in it recently, it fired up with those 3.5 yr old gas without any issue, but you can tell it was not running smooth. It was a test to see if it will fire up, I shut it off immediately and emptied the tank and got 3 gal of new gas for it.

If it's only a gallon or so, I'd drain it. Put a few gallons of fresh premium in, along with some good fuel system cleaner (I like BG44K or Chevron Techron if I'm being cheap). Check to make sure the boost sensor is hooked up properly with the vacuum line in-tact. Clean the intake and check exhaust to make sure there are no obstructions. Start it, hold it at ~ 3k rpm and do a half-gallon or so of water ingestion. Then new plugs and see what happens.

Damn 10 years holy christ lol

I just got rid of my 87 t2 around this time 10 years ago lol. And in July it will be 10 years since I bought my talon..

Time flies but really felt like only 2-3 years ago.

Glad to see you're still dedicated. Most people would have sold the car or got into a different car/car community.

I agree with the above. Fresh gas, water remover..new plugs.
