Unhappy Starting Problem - Struggles to start first thing in the morning

hi,

I have a fd rx7. it has just had a new engine put in and has been ran in. The problem i have is that when i start the car first thing in the morning it struggles to start it spits out a littke bit of water and a bit of white smoke. when i stope the car and turn of the ignation after driving it and start it back up when the car is warm its starts up fine. If i leave the car for a few hours after i have driven it to cool down and the start the car again when the engine is cold it starts fine. It just struggles to start in when i leave the car over night and start it in the morning?

Can anyone help me on what the problem might be?

The car has had a TRUST SMIC and had a smaller battery fitted to the car. Could it be that the battery is not powerful enough to hold its charge?

Thanks

Mike

Water and white somke are common at start up. It's when it doesn't clearup right away it becomes an issue. How many miles on the motor since the rebuild ??? Are you running stock plug configuration 7's leading and 9's trailing and have you changed the plugs since the rebuild ? ? ? Do you know what your cranking voltage is when starting the car ? ?

If you don't have a volt meter in the cabin to look at you'll have to hook up a meter across the batery and set it where you can see it while cranking. I never see any thing less than 9.5 vdc when it's cranking (after car sits for awhile and battery is down) nomally I see 10vdc. Have you changed the plugs since the rebuild (how many miles on the plugs and rebuild) as far as the white smoke (seems a little long to me) but then again I don't sit there waiting to warm it up so it dissapears pretty quickly.

the plugs were change when i had the rebuild done and when i took it for the 1500mile service the company required me to do. since then i have done around 500miles since the service. as far as mods go to the car there isnt many, Trust smic, hks indution, apexi bov, hks down pipe, stock cat pipe, and blitz nur spec cat back.

thanks again for you help

2 minutes with white smoke and sputtering is too long a time imo. Does the white smoke smell like coolant? Sweet smell? If so you may have a housing seal leak. Inserting an exhaust gas probe in the coolant with the engine running is one check you can do. Any shop that does smog checks can do it. Then if that is the problem, the engine must be torn down and rebuilt....... I hope you have a warranty! If you never overheated the new motor then whoever built it screwed up!

Im not sure what the smoke smells like but it smells a little sweet, Its peobably worth checking out by the sound of it though.

Thanks
