starting problem

well, i am having problems getting my third gen started. When i turn the key it tries to crank and turn over, but it just won't start. You can smell a little bit of gas when turning the key. If I push start the car, it will run fine. I have no idea what this could be. Any suggestions? i've already tried the unflooding procedure.

Thanks

Can you start the car without pushing on the gas pedal?

How about some background on the car? How long have you had it? When did the problem start?

Do you get any smoke out of of the exhaust when it starts? If so, does it smell like coolant?

i can only start the car by push starting it. i've had it about a year and a half, just turned 50k miles last week. when it is push started, it smokes white for just a few seconds.
