Hi Guys,

I finished rebuilding my engine and putting it back in! When I go to crank the car the starter makes a rapid clicking noise.

check your battery connections...actually check all electrical connections that pertain to the Start up system.(Clean grounds?,.clean battery connections?..cables to starter tight and clean?)
It sounds like the starter is not getting adequate voltage.
Also check battery voltage.

You're correct, but, to be perfectly accurate about this issue, it's sufficient amperage at adequate voltage the start system is not able to get. When the solenoid contacts initially engage (meaning there is briefly enough voltage), current flows to the starter motor, and voltage drops to the point where the starter solenoid can't stay engaged. Then voltage goes back up and it repeats, thus the rapid clicking.

Put some jumper cables to your car and try again.

Yes... jump it. The battery may have one bad cell and would behave weird. How old is the starer? I would use jumpers to start the car, if the problem persist , i would give a small tap to the starter to make sure is not stuck. It could be bad startet.

Glad you found it and it wasnt expensive... lol
