Started New Engine for First Time

It started w/o a hitch. But still got problems. The coolant buzzer was on after I stuck in the key. It stayed on while the engine was on. I also had an oil leak somewhere. I shut it off till it got to operating temp.
I gotta go figure it out today...

Congrats. Those oil leaks are typical. I forgot to tighten the primary turbo oil inlet and leaked out a pretty big puddle. Keep burpping the coolant systtem and you will get that coolant buzzer taken care of. Don't worry you are almost home free. Be sure to give your engine a good break in period.

Hmm.. I checked under the car and found a line that wasn't hooked up. It think it runs to the passenger side oil cooler. I just hooked it up. Haven't turned it one again yet. I need someone to help me push it outta the garage.
It was leaking from somewhere near the block last night. I think it was one of the banjo bolts... I just unbolted it and tightened it again.
Wish me luck when I turn it on again later guys!

Oh yeah. I will take pics, but I don't have the cable for the digicam my friend let me borrow. I'll buy one.

Seems to be running fine now. Looks like no leaks. I had the oil light. I put 3 more quarts in and it's fine. Didn't look like it leaked that much last night. Still get the coolant light. But Rated R1 said that it will go away if I keep burping it.
I'm gonna test run it a few more times before I drive it home. I'm so antsy!!!!

Hm.... Why am I getting the 4WABS LIGHT? It's been on since the second time I ran the engine. We didn't touch it at all. We just took the heat shield off when we took the engine out. I put it back on after the engine came back in. WTF...

Is smoke supposed to come out from the engine bay? I assume it's burning of some excuse grease and maybe some oil/coolant I spilled.

My fans aren't coming on... WTF
I ran it w/ the hood open and parking lights on. I also ran it w/ the hood closed. No fans. I don't think I touched any of the fan connections when I did the R+R.
Maybe they don't come on when it's cool out? It 60's right now...
I'm still getting the coolant light.
Some coolant came out of the overflow. WTF? I'm scared now. Can't be the coolant seals, can it?? It's a new engine!

The engine came w/ a new T-stat.
Now my power steering doesn't work. A lot of coolant is coming outta the reservoir too. The temp guage isn't going up though...

You might want to talk to the "expert" that rebuilt your engine...........just for the hell of it.

And if you rebuilt it - I can help... but one issue at a time.

So, in my world they are same thing. Do you have a hard copy of the Mazda shop manual?

Not trying to be a contrary pain in the *** - but putting one of these suckers back in correctly is just shy of a major nightmare.........you need to take it one issue at a time. I think you'll get there, start by multiple burping of the coolant system, the last thing you need is to overheat a new engine just because it is running.
It happens all the time..........

BTW, did you prime the oil pump before start up??

with the concern with the abs light make sure all connections on the alternator are tight. Especially the one under the black rubber boot.

Figured out my PS problem. It was very low in PS fluid. D'OH! I filled it up and turned the engine back on. The level went down. Is this normal?
I'm still getting the coolant light. WTF. The coolant is filled all the way up. Should I let it warm up to operating temp everytime I burp it?

you gotta be kidding me. . . you dont have enough confindence in yourself to pull out of a mess? dont let this ruin anything for you. many have pulled an fd engine and reinstalled with no probs.

People think pulling engines in other cars are simpler and the FD is the worst. It's not an easy task pulling and putting back an engine. If you change your mind on getting a RX-7 because of someones problem getting everything good to go, then I get you don't work on your car much? If so then a profesional wouldn't have a problem with it, just someone trying to get some experiance. Good luck Vudoodoodoo!
