AWS = Accelerated Warm-up System.
Mazda designed it to get the vehicle up to operating temp quicker thus elimenating some emissions along the way. I as well as others feel it creates excess wear upon the engine and either stop it or completely remove the system from the car.
To stop it; start the car with the shifter in 1st or 2nd gear -- OR -- Quickyl blip the throttle upon startup and it will quickly drop to 1500rpm for the fast idle and work down to about 800-900rpm.
Welcome to the fun world of the FD.

EDIT: As for the rought idle, the engine will run sorta rough when cold, its just the nature of it. However if it is running rough warm I'd look for a vacuum leak, idle adjustment should be your LAST step in diagnosis/repair. Check your MAP sensor and assure all vacuum lines are attached as that is the most common cause of a rough idle.
More information on your car would be good too: What mods, what milage, year and trans?
Hope it helps
