Stand alone Q's, again
Hey list,
My mods are BIG IC "(custom, size similar to m2 large IC), cat back, dp, and intake. Now, do i need stand alone or can i get away with running the stock ECU (for engine break in and running at the track)?
Thanks
-joe

hmm...mazdaspeed00, do you want to meet up this weekend? I'm in OC, Cali.
Also, boost controller for now, would be ok? i'm not going over 4,000rpm.....so it's cool for now, right?
Thanks!

I'm running the same mods on stock ecu (as are alot of other people I'm guessing). I'm using needle valves to keep the boost as low as possible, and I'm working on getting a profecb. Just from reading threads like this (I'm not a professional tuner or anything) I think we're safe as long was we keep the main cat. With a midpipe, it'd probably be too difficult to keep the boost down.

You can run those mods just fine on a stock ecu, just keep the boost to 10 psi. People who claim you will run lean have obviously never looked at an a/f ratio plot using the stock ecu.....
Obviously, by installing an M2 or Pettit ecu, you would be able to safely run 12 psi instead of just 10, so it's $400-450 well spent.

I have those mods minus the intercooler... I have hooked a wideband up to my car and see air fuels of around 10.5:1 - 10.8:1 at redline, which is plenty safe... I have a mbc on my car and peak boost around 10-11 psi and taper it down to 8 at redline.... car runs great! and put about 245hp the the wheels on the dyno
