CA SR Motorsports Coild Air Intake

Hello fellow FD owners, it's been a while since I last posted. I wanted to report an interesting finding yesterday.

I called SR Motorsports looking for some info on their cold air intake. I am sad to report that they no longer carry nor will manufacture their cold air intake systems for the Rx-7.

According to the person on the phone, there is no market for them to pursue this intake and there aren't many FDs on the road any more. Coincidentally, they sold their last one earlier this week. Again, they have no plans to continue making this intake. Here's the link to their intake section: Mazda RX7 Cold Air Aluminum Intake Box. Mazda RX7 3RD Generation FD3S.

What I'd like to know is how has it work for you? Was install easy and did you have any issues with aftermarket rads like Koyo or Fluidyne? Is there still a demand for this product? Feel free to chime in!

Cheers,
George

I have one, It is a tight fit with my Koyo N-flo but it does fit obviously. I have no complaints. I like how it pulls in cold air.

Since you cant get the SR unit anymore, there is a knockoff of it. Its from Rotary Works. The quality doesnt look as nice as the pics will show but its half priced of the SR.

Silver, thanks for the link. I did see the Rotary Works unit. Thanks for the link! I'll search the forum to see if anyone has used the Rotary Works unit. Until then, are there other members who have this setup? Do you like it, etc?

I think you'll find more results if you look up the m2 intake which is the same but more common.

I had the carbon m2 in my car with a fluidyne radiator. installation is really easy. I wouldve still had it if i didnt convert to single turbo.

I really like my intake. I have it in conjunction with a petit coolcharge 3 intercooler. It fits very nicely. I like how it pulls the cool air. It's important to me, and I'm not into the v mount after owning 2 setups.

I'll still keep my intake once I go single turbo, I'll just fab up a new back plate.

The Cheap Bastard Intake is the best cold air intake available. It will work nicely with a fluidyne or koyo radiator.

Pm me if you want one.

To be honest, SR Motorsports probably wasn't selling a lot of those intakes with that ridiculous price. A lot of their products have traditionally been terribly overpriced, and the FD market won't support that kind of pricing any more.

I have an SR Motorsports unit from about 15 (!) years ago which I still like. Works fine for me, and installs very much like the stock unit (pretty much plug and play). I do still have the 'stock' twin turbos. It does include the K&N filters - the Rotary Works system has no filters.

Looks pretty much like the M2 unit so either should work similar, if you can fine either one!

I'm stoked on mine. I fly under the smog guy's radar, plus pull in as much cool air as any 400 dollar carbon fiber gold plated mink coated airbox from Dubai.

Whoever came up with that idea must be a millionaire by now.

It's just an m2 knockoff. Tripoint produces something similar, currently. Or, you can squat in the FS section for a couple weeks and pick up an m2 unit second-hand.

Adam, I took mine (CBI) off for some reason and have to find it again. It's packed up in a box somewhere. I'll have to dig around some more for it.

For all, thanks for the inputs. I think Dale hit the nail on the head with its cost.
