sr motorsports/ 99 spec turbos

I've been shopping for some 99 spec turbos. I'm sure that most of you know that they sell for $2550 to $2595. Why would SR motorsports sell them for $3999..... on sale! It seems odd that they would be so far out of line with others.

that price makes sense to me. But I'll be honest I do not know a thing about pricing/vendors when it comes to 99 turbos

New 93-95 turbos from Mazda = $3k
New 99 spec turbos (also OEM) but shipped from outside the U.S. = more money.

is the $2550 for brand new turbos? or is it from some dude that ships stuff out of japan (used)?

The price appears to be very high but they are allowed to price them as they see fit. I paid $2595 recently from another vendor. If you're curious enough give SR a call and see what they say.

Actually the 99 spec turbos are less expensive than the 93-95 turbos. The price "three sevens" is quoting is for brand new turbos from a legit source.

Anything that has a SR motor sports badge on it seems to be more money.

You're absolutely right, they can sell them for as much as they want. It just seems to me that they would at least try to be remotely competitive.

$2550 to $2595 is for brand new turbos ( gotham, rx7.com), no core needed. SR motorsports sells the 93-95 turbos for $4169, thats crazy.

A few vendors seem to be able to source the 99 spec direct from Japan or something at a discounted rate. The suggested retail for the 99 spec turbos is very high and even through my Mazda Competition Account (dealer wholesale pricing) The were well over $3000. I was able to find them for less from a Vendor.

Why would you spend that much money on something that isnt even a a true upgrade...

You can get a set of stock twins in great shape used in the for sale section for under $300.00

Mine are still working but are blowing some oil, plus they have high mileage..... over 100k. I've got a brand spanking new motor from Malloy on the stand that I'm building and I don't want to use my old turbos. It's my understanding that the 99 spec turbos will spool faster and give me some extra torque.

Very little difference I have them. I would go for the the BNR if your old turbo are in good enough shape mine weren't canadate for a rebuild and they didn't even smoke.

Rich,

I've seen that dyno sheet, I like it. The problem I have with going with the bnr's is that my car is running now and I dont have a core to send in. The engine swap is a 06/07 winter project. I also run a pettit ecu and I know that if I get the bnr's I'll want to turn up the boost, which means a fuel system and a PFC. I just want to put 300-325 to the ground.

I just did the 99 turbo switch a few months ago. My primary turbo was starting to go on the originals. I had the money and always considered to go that route when the time came. For my driving preferences and mods (stock motor, Petit chip, basic bolt-ons, etc.) these were the best route to go. My only driving consists of spirited weekend drives and autox. Also, I have had problems with turbo rebuilds years ago in my previous turbocharged car before I got my 7 and I decided from then only to get brand new turbos in the future when needed.

In my observations, with my setup, the spool-up from 0-5psi is the same as the 93-95s. They might be even a tadbit slower. Though once they get moving around the 10psi range they are noticeably quicker. My limit on them is 15psi. I was only able to get 12-13psi on my primary before and now my primary effortlessly goes to 15psi and the transition is alot smoother as well. The spikes are about a pound and a half less then what they used to be. The turbo whine is definitely louder on these versions too.

What are your plans and driving preferences?

My car is just a weekend driver/maybe some auto x action and engine mods are pettit ecu, M2 intake and hard pipes, greddy smic with greddy elbow and hard pipes and a greddy profec type S EBC.

I've had my name on the last new short block that Ray Crowe had for sale, and last week he called said he had a buyer, so it was time to have it shipped. I've got that on the stand and a rebuilt tranny on the floor to go with it plus a SR motorsports 9lb flywheel on the bench. I'm going to stay with a stock port and would like to put 300-325hp to the ground, mainly for reliability's sake. Looking to get it right the first time so I don't have to tear back into it later.
