Rich, two words: STAY AWAY.

Here's a post from Club3G about Evolution Imports, be it from back in '04 (Posted: Wed Mar 31, 2004 @ 5:33 pm)

Not a single person who sent in a deposit on a street legal Evo has ever received one, even though some of them paid years ago. EI hasn't yet cleared a single car for street legal use in the US. Yes, they have delivered some cars to satisfied buyers, but these cars were for off road use, usually either as dedicated track cars or rally cars. If this is what you want your Evo for, then go ahead and buy one. If you are planning on using it as a daily driver, just buy a regular Evo VIII and mod it until it can run with a MR. If you order from EI, you will more than likely not receive a fully street legal MR for years, if ever.

I, for one, wouldn't risk my money on a company that has proven time and again to be untrustworthy. The stories that many posters tell about their experience with Evolution Imports does not inspire confidence in the company or its promises. Lancerforums/Evolutionm is where many of the people who have ordered from EI heard about the company, and out of all of the people who have placed deposits not a single one has received what they had paid for. With all of the controversy on the boards surrounding the EI case, one would expect at least one person to come in and say "Hey, I got my car and it's great!". This has not happened yet. Even the most ardent supporters of EI admit that they have not received a street legal Evo yet, but they all have high hopes for the future. This is more than a little-nothing. This is not something nitpicky like "My car came in scratched" or "I sent in my money for stickers and it's been two weeks and they still haven't come in", or even something more serious like "I ordered a GSR but got an RSII". This is very, very serious.

EI still has not cleared an Evo VII for street legal use. They have submitted a petition to get the Evo VII legalized, but the outcome of that petition is still up in the air AFAIK. If this sets any precedent for the timeframe that they operate on, an Evolution VIII MR won't be legalized for at least 2 more years, or around the time that the Evo IX begins production. The choice, as always, is up to the consumer, but, considering the number of people who got burned by EI, one would be wise to stay away for now.

EDIT: Link Page 30 of the thread. Interesting read on the history of Evolution Imports
That link (in the last line above) is http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthr...&pagenumber=30 which is from the EvolutionM forum.

EI doesn't import street legal cars as they claim...at least not *federally* legal cars. I can get Spirit R's ALL DAY LONG into the US, but that doesn't mean that they're here *LEGALLY*.

THAT'S JUST GREAT!!.. GLAD TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT MY CAR NOW!

This is a copy of an email that I just sent a guy who told me about this thread..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello!

I just read your thread about seeing my car at a track in Florida??... My car came to me from Adam Burdette, from Evolution Imports, out in Florida .. when it arrived to me here in Chicago, the seats were missing out of the car!! And not only that, the car had cosmetic body damage!! (small dents and dings on the fenders and body panels). I called my importer, Adam Burdette, at Evolution Imports, and he told me that the car had come loose while inside the shipping container while it sailed from Japan.. and the seats were stolen out of the car while it sat in customs waiting for the paperwork to clear....

I am writing to you because I would like to know exactly what and where the track was?.. was it a time trial??.. was it racing with other cars on the track?.. now that I know that my importer was racing my car around (with only 100 km on the odometer), it makes sense that was how the body damage occured... and what about the seats??.. did you see Red Recaro seats in the car while he was inside the car???.. this is very important, so if you can try and remember!!

Also, the Red Recaro seats were supposedly "stolen" out of the car while it sat at customs. Here is a link with a picture of ADAM BURDETTE, from EVOLUTION IMPORTS, sitting in my car, looking at the seats in fact!!.. how nice.

http://www.4500x.com/RX7/pictures11.htm

Can you give me any more information?.. when was the race held?.. was there any drifting going on??.. the car arrived to me with melted rubber in the wheel wells.. and, believe it or not, french fries on the floor. When I called this guy back, he said he had no knowledge as to how the french fries got in the car.. and as for the dings.. he said that the car may have "shifted" in the shipping crate as it came over from Japan.. man, I must have been born yesterday.

DO NOT USE EVOLUTION IMPORTS... DO NOT MAKE ANY BUSINESS DEALINGS WITH ADAM BURDETTE.. This is his website, in case you want to visit it...

http://www.evolutionimports.com/

I have NO MOTIVATION to lie about what happened to me.. I can only tell what happened.

Also, when the car arrived to me, the speedometer cable was disconnected.. so there is really no way to know how many miles the guy put on my car in the 2 weeks between the time the car arrived from Japan, to the time it arrived here in Chicago..

Since Adam's "joyride" in my car, I had the car professionally restored by a Lambo/Ferrari body shop in the Chicago area.. it cost me ALOT of $$$ to have the car completely redone (sanded down, primed, repainted). The bodyshop had the car for 8 weeks working on the car to make sure everything came out perfect... and I can say they did a great job.. (they were working on Dennis Rodman's Ferrari while I was there.. front end damage!).

The car runs great.. I love it.. The mechanic that takes care of my 1995 RX7 inspected the car and said it's fine...

Anyways, I just wanted to say "thanks" for getting me the information about my car.. Just goes to show you how much you really can't trust some people... eh?

I will get pictures of the RX7 up tomorrow if you're interested...

95and02RX7owner, I'm not quite sure why you're complaining. You're dealing w/ a company that has a history of shady dealings (see my post: https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...8&postcount=30). They bring in cars illegally (including yours), b/c a state title does NOT mean the vehicle is federalized. In fact, if *any* law enforcement agent sees your car and knows *anything* about NHTSA Importation laws, they'll pull you over and seize your car.

I'm sorry what happened to you, but really...what do you expect from a company that tries to pass off illegal cars as being legal - and that's when they actually DO deliver the cars as promised?

Just my $0.02

Damn. That sucks. I suggest you hire a lawyer and sue the crap out of Evolution Imports. You may want to also contact the DA's office in Orlando Florida regarding your seats. Sounds to me like your buddy at EI stole them out of your car.

Lucky for you that guy is as dumb as a box of rocks. Posting pics up on the net of your supposedly missing seats? not smart. I hope you receive a high enough judgement that it closes that moron's 'shop' down.

According the EVO forum thread Ramy posted, supposedly the guy i in the process of bankrupting EI.. so you better get a criminal judgement, since there'll likely be no assets for a civil/monetary one.

In the other thread the guy who said he saw your car at a track aslo said it ran 16 second passes. So I guess Adam took your car to a 1/4 mile track. The rubber in the wheel wells would make sense if he did a burn out to heat up the tires prior to the 1/4 mile run.

What body shop was this? I'm going to be having alot of body work done to multiple cars in the near future. I've got a contact for a shop around here that does alot of work on Ferarris and Lambo too. Maybe its the same shop.

I'd love to check out your car some time. I'm probably not far from you.

I wonder if this is the same car that was put together in Daytona. From my understanding it cannot come into the U. S. complete. Therefore the motor/ tranny was pulled and then put back in. Probably a different Spirit R. I wil get more info. from the source of this particular incident and post back. G

G's 3rd Gen, cars like that can't be put back together either. The Customs paperwork will STILL show the chassis coming in as "auto parts," so by putting it together and driving it on the street, you're guilty of fraud (the car was REALLY brought in for street use, which is illegal).

I thought you could take it apart, ship it, put it back together, then license it as a kit car?

Am I correct? I belive that ther is a company that does this skylines.

You CAN (physically), but it's still ILLEGAL. Think about it. Why is the car not street legal? Because the US hasn't been able to verify it's crash test worthiness. So just because you took it apart and put it back together, it's magically safter and crash-test worthy? lol. C'mon now Brandon. I know you're smarter than that.

The chassis (which has an MSO #) is imported. That MSO # cannot be tampered with, or then you're dealing w/ a stolen/fraudulent chassis. So that specific chassis is brought in as "auto parts." Thus it CANNOT be used as a chassis on the street. Absolutely not. Titling the car as a "kit car" is a way that certain companies get around STATE laws to get a title. But they STILL don't have a 17-digit US VIN, nor do they have a Customs Release or HS-7 showing the vehicle entered for street use. The car is STILL subject to seizure, and not only would they crush it, but they'd find whoever brought it in and throw 'em in jail. In fact, not too long ago, one of the shops that did this was raided and the owners were thrown in the slammer for fraud.

Am I correct? I belive that ther is a company that does this skylines.
You're correct in that it's being done. But it's FAR from legal. It's circumventing state laws (by titling it as a kit car), while still being in violation of FEDERAL laws. And we all know what breaking a federal law means... a FELONY (*mandatory jail time*).

Needless to say, the Skylines I bring in are FEDERALIZED. They enter the US for street use, and are 100% in line w/ federal and state laws from start to finish. No shady business along the way. I'm not looking forward to seeing the inside of a jail cell, no matter HOW much money I can make before that point

I'm sorry...but I warned guys on here about Evolution Imports before. In fact, I used to police this $hit quite a bit back in my moderator days.

Here is his member profile.
https://www.rx7club.com/members/evolution_imports-49392/

I don't know what you can do...but most of these so-called import companies will just resurrect themselves in the form of another name/address later. Some times, they operate by using some address...be it a friend's shop address as their own. So in theory, they have a shop location. From there, the process of ripping people off begins. All the while...you have a customer sending them money...to a fake address.

Good luck and sorry to hear about your situation...
